Hostelling in USA for USA citizens?
Sun, 06/04/2006 - 15:25
Hello, I have recently been traveling in Europe and Central America, staying in hostels and now I wish to see my home country the USA. Looking online it seems that most if not all hostels in the USA require of their guests either a foreign passport, or current student ID from out of state. This seems rather absurd to me, as I have neither. I wish to travel from Florida to California and prefer to stay in hostels instead of hotels. Does anyone have any suggestions or can list a website that lists hostels that are friendly toward domestic citizens in the USA? This policy seems to be unique to the USA. Maybe I should just apply to the local community college in order to get a current student ID.
Is it really the case ???
How cheap are the hostels in comaprison to the road side motels..no named ones..
London, Brussels, Basel, Paris, London
I know that some of the hostels around LAX require passports, but I think this is mostly to keep bums out.
One thing I will tell you is that hostelling is different in the US. My limited experience rates it as not as good as European hostels, but then again, my experience is limited.
Please give us reports on US hostels.
BTW, the India House hostel in New Orleans, (if it’s still there) is the WORST PLACE I’ve ever spent the night in my life.
