Hostels and wifi
Fri, 07/24/2009 - 12:59
Do most hostels have wifi in each room, and if so is the wifi free or do you have to pay?
I will be traveling all around europe but my company still expects me to be logged in working 8 hours a day (9-5 New York time), so being able to be online on my laptop is essential. What are your experiences with hostels? Do most offer free wifi? Or is for a fee? Thanks!
I am leaving from New York, USA with $14000 for 123 days

Working 8 hours a day and traveling is not going to be easy (if possible at all).
In terms of WiFi you can expect the following:
You will not have WiFi in your room. You will only have access to WiFi in the common area.
On average you will only have about 20 minutes of free internet access a day. After that it will probably cost you about 2 euros an hour (from my experience, but it changes everywhere).
Internet cafe’s will not have WiFi, they expect you to use their machines.
There is WiFi in some places you wouldn’t expect; McDonalds, KFC (only in some countries).
I found a WiFi map somewhere, but I can’t remember where. I know it has been linked in the forum a few places. I think Googling will probably be the best bet.
Some links I found quickly:

cheers and good luck…
