How to get from Madrid to Rome?
Thu, 04/07/2011 - 13:28
I will be studying abroad in Alcala for a month. After that I will be flying out of Rome back to America. I have from June 16th – 26th to travel and get to Rome. The only definite thing is to spend 2/3 days in Rome.
What are the best options to do so and be able to see sights as well. Thanks! My trip is in my planner.
I am leaving from Madrid with $1000 for 11 days
Milan, Venice, Naples, Rome

Why only 2 to 3 days in Rome? I recommend an absolute minimum of 3. There are numerous interesting day trips or overnight side trips (Pompeii, Sorrento, Capri, coastal resorts) from Rome that could easily fill up the whole week.
For Madrid to Rome, I would definitely recommend flying to “wherever it’s cheapest” in Italy and then using the train to visit Cinque Terre, Florence, Rome, Venice — as few or as many as your travel style dictates.
