How much did you spend on food a day?
Wed, 03/08/2006 - 13:54
hm the subject kinda explains the question. how much did all your eating and drinking cost every day you were backpacking?

It really depends on what country you’re in, and what you eat/drink. If your meals come from grocery stores (for picnics, cooking yourself) you could probably keep the costs btwn 5-15 euros/day depending on what you eat. If you eat out all the time, that estimate goes way up. Typically, it’s more expensive in Scadinavia, Britain, and Ireland, and cheaper in Southern countries. For example, I paid less than euro for a small carton on milk in Spain, but almost 3 euros for almost the same thing in Dublin.
in italy i was spending about 8 euros on lunch..thatd be soup and breae maybe a salad and a coffee
in switzerland a coffee at movenpick cafe was 4.50 francs…a salad was 9.50 francs fish soup was 10.50francs
very expensive!!!
a large big mac in switzerland was 11.90 francs
a gelato single waffle cone was five euros!!!!!!
a beer was 4.30 francs a piece of chocolate cake 5 francs
in cortina coffee was 1.20 euros..got lunch for 4 euros…watery vegetable soup and a roll
paid half a euro to go to the toilet ( u pay thru out europe)
to buy a souvenir…a cap or something is about 6 euros round venice…i collected keyrings paid anywhere btw i euro and 8 euros 9 in olympia greece)..madness! but i was hell bent on it!
in venice i paid a salmon and egg roll for 5.60 euros water was o.90 euro
internet use is anywhere btw 3 and ten euros for half an hr in europe
bought two tapestry bags for 8 euros each..the fell apart..lesson dont buy touristy crap
three pounds for breakfast at macdonalds in london…thatwas a toasted beef roll and another pound or so for coffee
about 16 pounds to go on the london eye about 14 pounds to go to the tower of london
bought lunch for five pounds in canterbury supermarket ( tesco)…cheese, breadrolls juice tomato banana apple five pounds for two people..so u can go cheap
10 euro/day if only from the markets. 10 euro for a decent meal out (not common). 10+ euro for beer, except in E Europe (daily).
