64) When someone makes an effort and gives you a lengthy reply, it doesn’t hurt to say thank you (also that will get your post back on top again and maybe get you even more help)

Bumpity bump bump bump.
By the way, Djibouti and East Timor? I doubt they even have electricity in East Timor yet…

Up she goes again
i say again!

I finally read the whole thing! I kept meaning to finish the thread, but dammit my boss kept walking in on me
Anyhow for the pleasure of future readers…bump!
65) Euro-chick paradise is situated in Estonia and Iceland, home to world’s largest concentration of damn HOT blondes.
66) Show yourself of and tell the world by sewing and attaching an American badge or pin onto your backpack upside-down. If not, set it on fire.

try not to ridicule people for wanting help! If a person posts something, it’s prob because they want an answer, specific to their problem. It looks to me like there is an air of snobbery developing! not everyone is a conisseur of travel!
Not always true. Just looking at the board now, there are two questions that are as vague as "what is the meaning of life?"
The difference is some people don’t even think of looking up the country in Wikipedia, or LP, or take any rudimentary steps on their own to help themselves? How hard is common sense?
Ah, nevermind.
I just found this site and posted for the first time. I’m planning my first trip to Europe and thought I might get some helpful advise. EXCUSE ME for not using the search button. Shit, I still haven’t even found it. I won’t waste my time here anymore.
Thanks Don – I found it, but still didn’t find any helpful information. Fodors has given me much more than this site. Perhaps you guys should start a chat room instead.
A Eurotrip chat room … HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!! That’d be awful—absolutely awful!!! It’d be 100 times worse than pub!!! Fodors is alright, but they tend to be older and more affluent than the Eurotrip crowd, and some on their forums can be much more snitty than even our worst snits!
See my reply to your post today. Hope it helps to at least get you started.
Bump
bumping…it’s been awhile
Best Topic Ever…
That bit on night trains by Auher and Delfrio… Mwah
no regrets…
Glad you guys still like it
Remember that night train advice – never know when it will come in handy
I know I’m not around anymore – can’t really get this page to load without a system freeze unless I use Opera
which is a bit odd.

Sometimes it feels like the people on this site who have posted alot and traveled alot, have forgotten what it’s like to be someone who is venturing out for the lst time to travel in Europe. There isn’t a written rule book about how to use Eurotrip.com. Maybe there should be if those who are informed feel put upon by the same questions time after time. People find this site and see that they can ask questions and get reponses and that’s helful. You ol timers have forgotten I’m afraid the excitement and apprehension of your lst trip. Patience is a virtue and not being a travel snob is really much more pleasant for everyone, then having an attitude.
I think this thread was a way of blowing off steam for those who have traveled a bit and answered the same question 25 times.
The closest thing Favorite Places has to a Rule Book is
the How To thread which is perhaps a bit gentler than Auher’s primer.
Of course we want to be helpful and answer questions. All of the regulars here have much to offer. I agree that being a travel snob with a condescending attitude is unpleasant and unhelpful.
As you say, patience is a virtue—a two-way street as well.
We only ask that the questions be somewhat informed ones: i.e., show a wee bit of research—because this helps us help the newbie.
There is something interesting that can be got from this trip though.
There is a fairly large group of seasoned travellers that answer questions. Often the same ones over and over again until they just stop.
These regulars have contribituted to this (tongue in cheek) thread because they want to help others but answering the same question over and over again gets a bit old.
Then there are some people critizing those regulars. Fair enough, everybody is entitled to their own opinions. However, it seems like the majority of these aren’t regular posters answering the questiongs. Maybe that makes their standpoint a milder one ?
lol and here I was getting my hopes up! By far one of the best post. =)
heh
I liked the part about LuvTheBeach being a female.
lol Cil I thought LTB was a girl for a long time.
68) Using Eurotrip means downloading more and more obscure internet browsers to prevent things from freezing and crashing. I sware that 3 months ago I could go on this site from Firefox, then Internet Explorer, now I can only get on using Opera. What’s next Eurotrip; Sun Solaris?
Nah, it’s not that Judith. I think more than anything it’s what Cil & Wa1ter said – it’s a tongue in cheek attempt at a "user guide" and also a way to blow off steam. I mean did you really take me seriously when I spoke of using a freakin’ 2 X 4 to give someone a swift blow to the jaw when on a night train? Nah – I doubt it.
I think the only time "newbie" questions get onerous is when they are pointlessly illogical ones like: "Which is better – Spain or France?" And if you think about it – it’s obvious why those questions are absurd – travel is something different to everyone. I love Sarajevo for example, but someone else might say that it looks like a war zone and has no "real" sights – and that’s fair. That’s the only seriousness I ever intended in this post.
Me too
I’ll admit it. I think he needs to amend his name to something less questionable
BTW – I’m still checking this thread regularly to see if SOMEONE; ANYONE has been invited in for tea by nomads wearing national costume in rural Turkey. Rick did – why don’t we??????
