I know it's early...
Fri, 04/10/2009 - 23:34
I just booked our tickets for this fall visiting Munich for the Oktoberfest and Dublin. My question has to do with the reservations at Oktoberfest. I have read about needing them for larger groups but can’t seem to get them for our size group, which is 6 people. I heard you need to get there early for a group that size but will we have to get up later in the day if a reserved guest arrives? A lot of the tents say they are already booked for the evening, will we not be able to get seats at night? And are there any tents with availabilities for 6 people? We will be in Munich from Sep. 19-24.

It may be too late, but you can try Der Hippodrom.
www.oktoberfest.de/Then, you will find the link for the Hippodrom under the Grosse Zelten (large tents) link.
They take reservations for 6 people – upstairs in the Gallery, near the band.. We sat there in 2007 and it was very nice.

If we go without reservations will we not get to stay for the nights?
Normally not with a group of 6 people unless you manage to get an unreserved table earlier that day. If you were one or two people sometimes you can squeeze in somewhere during a weeknight.
LB: I think I will make it 9/24 or o as well! But not till 2010… You are all set with the Croat Bros? Make sure you drink plenty of Weihenstephan for me at their place!

Well, as far as I’m informed you sometimes have to book the table for 8 because that’s the minimum number of people in most areas. Even if you are just 6 people you can split the remaining amount by 6. That’s how we did it last year.
The world is a book and those who don’t travel read only a page.
MOST tents have only tables of 10 or more. A few will allow 8 persons. The only one who allows 6 is Der Hippodrom, and they go quickly…

We actually got a table for 6 at one of the smaller tents. If anyone is interested go to http://www.toytownge… and there is a lady who sells off reservations at (fairly) reasonable prices. It’s not for the big tents mostly, at least not in the evenings, but they can get you tables even at this late point in time. I figure we will mostly be drinking in the tents during the days and if we get kicked out for reservations later in the night, enjoying the crowds and stalls on our own, with beer in hand.
