ID, Drinking, INFO!!!!
Tue, 12/28/2004 - 00:22
I´m looking for some info about what are de main problems getting into bars aor something loke that when all of your friends are 18 while I´m only 17… I´ve heard there´s no problem over theree, but if someone can help… ja i´m from argentina someone knows that country????

I’ve never seen anyone check ID at any club or bar in Europe. I’m sure you will be fine
I am planning a trip to Amsterdam with my son. He won’t be 18 until August, but we were wanting to go before then. I’ve seen two different legal drinking and smoking ages listed—16 and 18; which is correct?
In the Netherlands 16 is the legal age for beer, wine and ‘alcopops’ etc. 18 is the legal age for hard liquor.
They’ve grown stricter on checking shops and bars about this so he may well be asked ID if he tries to buy hard liquor, but beer and wine will be okay.
I’m not sure how the smoking law is currently (I don’t smoke) but I believe under 16-s can’t buy cigarettes/tabacco.
Im pretty sure the age for coffeshops in amsterdam is 18 but they don’t card except for the race instances in the really touristy places so he might want to avoid places like the grasshopper and its ilk.

The general rule on checking IDs is not to check at all. Unless you look really young, there’s no cause for alarm.
If they check, just go somewhere else.
