IDs for the bars
Mon, 08/30/2004 - 16:18
I know that most bars don’t card you at the door, but what kind of ID do I need with me to get into a club if asked? Is a US driver’s license ok? or do I need my passport?

Passport – don’t leave home without it!
(in the case that the hostel "steals" you passport, drivers license should be ok; actually, i’ve never been carded in any part of Europe)
I guess it can be any ID which has your photo and date of birth.
My first trip to Europe was when I was 14 and I drank beer at many bars and was NEVER asked for ID. But yes, if you need ID, your passport is what they want to see.
Your passport becomes a very important form of ID when you’re traveling in Europe. That’s what you need to carry. And don’t lose it, because it will be a pain to replace. Make a copy of it, and keep it aside, in case you do lose it. Or write down the passport number.
A driver’s license is about as good as a library card. I suppose if you lost your passport, that would be the next best thing.
By the way, they won’t ID you when you go in a bar.
