US Anglo Saxon male soon 67 would like to find a female travel companion for a month or more traveling India by train in late ’05. Primary focus will be on northern mountain areas right across the top of India. Independent travel experience a definite plus. Shared expenses. Shared rooms or separate. Politics permitting across North Africa in ’06. Plan B for ’06 is Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia.

Just as a warning, nighttrainsouth, I don’t know about your background, but if you’ve never been to India before, I would be really be careful about being 67 and traveling by train.

India really takes its toll on even the healthies western traveler…and taking trains there (which I did on my own for about a month) is really exhausting. The heat is exhausting and the hassle is immense. Make sure you are fit, well-vaccinated and that your stomach can handle just about anything. Also, if possible, for someone your age, I would definitely try to buy 1st class tickets all the way, sometimes 2nd is okay but only cars with A/C. Please be careful.

I agree with Hope but travelling in the winter can be pleasant specially when travelling in the mountains of Kashmir, Simla, Almora, Darjeeling, Nainital and perhaps to Sikkim.

Trains are small and I am not sure they have first class trains in the hill stations.

But if you are travelling, any other area, then like Hope said, it better be a first class. They also have sitting AC chairs which are also Ok to travel.

Just came back from India, China and West Africa and can answer a few questions.

I am leaving from US and traveling for 11 days
