Insurance

So what’s the most common thing to do in regards to travel insurance if you’re going to work in a different country for a couple years? I’m moving to London and don’t even know where to start looking…. anyone have any suggestions?

When you say "travel insurance" do you mean health cover whilst you are working abroad? Or do you mean coverage for travels gone horribly wrong, developing dysentary in remote Thailand, lost luggage and that sort of thing?
I don’t know about other countries, but in Norway you qualify for national health if you are working and paying tax. It’s automatic—you can’t opt out, but you can have your own supplemental insurance for private doctors. Maybe ask your UK employer about that before moving. Ask early enough so that you can arrange your own insurance ahead of time if necessary.
I’m assuming you have a job offer already? If you don’t, then be sure to purchase a roundtrip ticket with return within 6 months of arrival to show the Immigration officers that you’re just a tourist (and pack like one so they don’t get suspicious!). If you show up and tell them you plan to find work, you won’t be allowed out of the airport’s secure zone until you can show proof of return travel and convince them you were just joking about that whole work thing earlier… you meant you were working on being the best darn Canadian tourist in England-land!
hehe thanks Don. Yeah I mean national health coverage… going to make some calls to see if my provincial plan can be extended to national coverage too.
I might have a job offer already. But I might not when I head over, it’s still up in the air but I’m moving no matter what. So even though I have a work visa, airport security could still give me a hard time? Because as sneaky as I can be, the work visa is pretty loud in my passport so it’ll be obvious I’m working. Or were you just refering to if I didn’t have a visa?
If you’ve got a valid UK work visa, then it’s no problems.
