Internships/working abroad
Thu, 10/13/2005 - 10:18
ive been exhaustively searching for international job programs that make sense somewhate financially. obviously im not looking to get rich but it seems most programs dont even offer enough to eek by. The vast majority offer unpaid internships and nothing else like discounted housing or whatever. How do people join these programs when they are expected to pay for housing in a major city like sydney or london and work full time unpaid jobs. Even if you got a second job it prob wouldnt be enough to fully support yourself and besides then you’d be working all the time. I guess its expected that you have $10,000 saved up before you go??
Has anyone done this?
Go teach English in either Japan or Korea. Korea is the most financially rewarding, and you can make up to like $60,000 a year just starting out so i`ve heard. Japan has many companies including Aeon, JET, Geos, and Nova. The best is probably JET at least for compensation. Pay is like 35,000 a year tax free. You don`t need to be proficient in the native language to do these programs too. You can do the JET program for 3 years, and I know people that easily save 10,000 dollars a year, bad thing is they are living in rural areas. You are not going to save crap living in london or Sydney, trust me. You can also find some good oppurtunities in South America like Brazil or Argentina. Pay is not even close to as good, but standard of living is much much lower.
