Hi,
I’m Ram from Manchester England. I’m going a Winter Eurotrip in December for 14 days to Amsterdam, Paris, Venice, Florence, Rome and Barcelona!
Amsterdam, Paris, Bruges, Munich, Rome
Amsterdam, Bruges, Paris, Barcelona, Geneva, Rome

Hi Ram! Your trip is pretty rushed for 14 days. Have you figured out how much of your time will be spent “in transit?”
Hi oldlady,
I’m flying from Manchester to Amsterdam, staying with a friend for 2 days, then take a train to Paris. I stay in Paris for 3 full days and take the overnight train to Venice from there. Vencie for just 1 day, take the early morning train to Rome the next day. I stay there for 4 days (3 3/4 in actuality) and take a flight late evening to Barcelona arriving in the night. Stay in Barcelona for 2 full days (31, 1) and my flight is on the evening of 2nd Jan (so half a day there). I’ve already amnaged my flight bookings and majority Hotel bookings…any suggestions?

I think you’ll find the overnight train and flights tiring, but it’s definitely doable. I take it you dropped Brugges?
Well, there’s only so much I can do with 13/14 days…besides, Brugges is pretty close by and I have people in Amsterdam, so I can visit any time I’m thinking of sneaking in a day in Florence somehow though!

hey! I’m going on my first backpack trip with my cousin and we’re really excited! If you have any tips we’d love to read them!
Thanks Jess, and Sarah
Dublin, London, Berlin, Paris, Dublin
Venice, Florence, Rome, Athens, Vienna, Budapest, Kraków, Prague, Salzburg, Milan, Venice
Welcome! Looks like a good trip, but it’s a little rushed for such large, interesting and far-flung cities. Do you have a reason for Milan? You’d have a much more comfortable trip with one less city
Hi! I’m going on my first backpack trip with my younger cousin and we’re really excited! This will be the first time my cousin has left the country. If you have any tips we’d love to read them and trust me we need them
Santorini, Athens, Delphi, Rome, Florence, Barcelona, Madrid, Paris, Amsterdam, Munich
Welcome AnaMeara! Looks like a fun trip, but with the logistics of getting to/from/around Greece plus Italy, Spain and Northern Europe, I think you’ll find this very rushed. I’d save Greece for your next trip when you can spend at least a week (preferably 2) there.
Thank you for the advice. However, Greece is both of our top choice. I was thinking of cutting out Delphi from the Greece Trip to give us more time. Any other travel advice or sights that we must see would be very helpful as we are both novices to this and honestly I am a little nervous about planning this trip on my own
Santorini, Athens, Delphi, Rome, Florence, Barcelona, Madrid, Paris, Amsterdam, Munich
I’d spend some time with plane, train and ferry schedules. I think you’ll find almost no time for sightseeing or to get to know any of these cities. You’re going to be spending 75 to 100% of every second day on subways, in train stations (or airports or ferry terminals) and on trains — not my idea of a fun trip. If you want to do Greece then you’ll need to cut Spain or maybe 2 of your cities in Germany/France/Netherlands.
Hello,
I am a 23/M from New Jersey. I’m planning a Eurovisiontrip in May 2014. Going from London to Paris to Berlin and back to NYC. The planned dates are from May 2nd to the 11th. I’ve never traveled outside the States. I’m very excited for it and may extend the trip to two weeks and see other friends in Vienna and Zagreb.
London, Paris, Berlin
Bada, Welcome. Looks like a great trip. Hope you have time to extend it to Austria and Croatia.
It has been long long long since the last time I visited this website. I must say a lot of the information I used to put together my first Eurotrip back in Dec’99 came from this site, did 4 more trips after that and I might to a short one this coming December. This site continues to be a great site and I couldn’t help but smile when I saw the ‘Where to get laid’ topic among the first ones as it made me remember the numerous topics that kept the Pub extremely active. I was not a regular, I participated from time to time, but it would get my attention seeing how members like Bobian, Jboy, The Herr, Fabianne, La chic Melia, Jake the peg, Boris, among many others would keep the topics to be controversial, fun, interesting, etc.
Excellent site, excellent community.
Regards
Welcome back!

Hi there, my name is David. I am a 22 year old student from Singapore. I will be going to Trinity College Dublin as part of my university student exchange in Jan to May 2015. Besides staying in Dublin, I intend to travel to parts of Western Europe like London and Paris. So far, the places I have been to are Tokyo, Seoul, Taipei, Hong Kong and Bangkok.
Welcome, Cleftjuston. You should have a great time in Dublin. You should be able to find cheap flights on Ryan Air or other low cost airlines to get to just about any city in Europe.
Hi, am Divya from India. I am planning to go backpacking across Europe in feb 2014 with a few friends. This is our first trip,so information n suggestions would be of great help. Thanks!!
Barcelona, Rome, Florence, Venice, Zürich, Prague, Berlin, Amsterdam, Brussels, Paris
Welcome, Divya!
Hi, my name is Tess!
I’m planning a few trips for the upcoming year and I hope I can get some friendly advice here on the forum!
Hi, I’m Emily from Ohio, and I’m studying abroad in Copenhagen, Denmark next semester for 4 months!! I’m beyond excited, especially because I’ll be visiting three other cities along with my program-Paris, Vienna, and Budapest-but I really want to see as much of Europe as I can while I’m there!
I only have two substantial study breaks-one for 9 days and one for 5 days-and my top places to visit are London, Edinburgh, Florence, Rome, Madrid, Barcelona, Amsterdam, and Berlin. I doubt I can find a way to see everything in my limited breaks, but I’m looking for advice on how to plan my travel breaks logistically so that I can see as much as I can!
Welcome Tess and Emily!
Tess, we’ll be happy to help with advice and answers. Try our trip planner and post any questions in the appropriate forums.
Emily, you probably won’t get to all your wish list cities. I’d start by looking for cheap airfares to some of your more distant cities. Use www.whichbudget.com to see which low fare airlines fly from (or near) Copenhagen to which of your cities. See our “cheap flights” forum for more tips, flight searches and help.
And what’s great about Europe is that there are so many different cultures relatively close together — so even weekend trips can be great! Check out trains and, as OL pointed out, cheap flights.

Hey,
Im Zack and Im from New York. A friend of mine from england spent last year in America going to school where we became friends. This summer we are planning a reunion eurotrip starting July 8th and going for about 3 weeks from there. Im going to be flying straight from a family vacation in Ireland so my departure will be from Dublin. My first draft of our plan is to fly to Istanbul, then train to Croatia (Dubrovnik, or Split haven’t decided), Budapest, Krakow, Prague, Berlin, Amsterdam, possibly Bruges, then back to his place in England. We have about $3000 each and plan to stay exclusively in hostels. Any advice on travel or sightseeing/nightlife would be appreciated. Also havent booked any hostels or train tickets as of yet. Would also appreciate any advice on Croatia decision. Thanks
Milan, Budapest, Prague, Berlin, Amsterdam
Hi Zach, I can’t see spending most of 3 days to get from Istanbul to Zagreb by trains (part of which will be bus) and then nearly a full day to get to Split or a full day to get to Dubrovnik (there is no rail south of Split, so you’ll have to bus to Dubrovnik) then another day to get back to Zagreb and then a 9hour train ride to Budapest with your ambitious list of far flung cities and limited time. I’d look for a cheap flight to Split or Dubrovnik and then another flight to Budapest. Start your train travel in Budapest.
Here’s some info you may find useful on trains from Istanbul http://www.seat61.co…
You may also find that the time involved in gettin to/from Krakow is prohibitive.
I’ve been to Split but not Dubrovnik. I think most folks prefer Dubrovnik, but I have one friend who much prefers Split. Transportation logistics may dictate for this trip. Split is easier to get to.
thanks oldlady,
Yea getting to and from Croatia without flying is seeming like an impossibility. Also the more I think about it we amy have to axe Istanbul from the trip. since our destinations are so far apart the traveling is going to be annoying as is. Skipping Istanbul will give us more days without travel and also take the most difficult individual trip out of our plans

Hi,
I’m Julia from Hamburg, Germany. So far I have mostly been traveling overseas: Australia, USA -but now I feel like I really want to discover more of the closer surroundings!
So far no trip has been planned but I am hoping for some inspiration in this forum for possible trips.
Meanwhile I am writing my master’s thesis for which I am conducting a survey on a concept of an imaginary Backpacker-Cruise in the Mediterranean for which I was also hoping to find some participants in this forum for as I really need some expert opinion from fellow Backpackers on the concept! If anyone sees this and is interested, please feel free to participate (takes about 15 minutes) – it would help me out a great deal! Here is the link to the survey: https://www.soscisur…
Cheers
Julia
hellooo,
I’m Lisa from Canada. I am finally heading out to (western) Europe after about 6 years of saying I want to, and partially planning. I’m only going for just under 4 weeks, and I feel like such a noob with so many questions.
I have found a one way from Toronto to Paris for $592 CDN, wonder if this is a good fare? Also, is it dangerous to book a flight out now and wait on a lower fare coming back? Should I book everything at once?
Please help!
Thanks in advance,
Lisa

Hi Lisa, Welcome!
Check our “cheap flights” forum (particularly new users thread) for advice on flights. One way flights are usually more expensive, but maybe the flight gurus will have better advice for your specific situation.
Hi,
My name is Zarah, from Toronto (Canada), and will be traveling to Europe for the first time in April 2014 with 3 others. We plan to backpack for a duration of 3 weeks. We plan to arrive in Rome, then visit Venice, Innsbruck, Munich, Prague and depart from Budapest.
As it is my first time traveling to Europe and backpacking, please feel free to share your suggestions and advice with me. Specifically with “must see” places and hostels in the cities listed.
I’m glad I came across this site, it’s extremely informational and a great starter for someone who is new like myself! The forums I’ve read so far are a great help and look forward getting more info before I leave!

Hello,
My name is Danny 25, from Michigan (US) and will be traveling Europe with 3 friends in late July for 14 days. We don’t plan to backpack, but stay at hotels during our stay.
So far our trip looks like this.
Amsterdam 2 Days (Arrive in Amsterdam)
Belgium 2 Days (going to Tomorrowland for 1 day)
Paris 3 Days
Barcelona 1 Day (must stop here to get to Ibiza)
Ibiza 4 Days (Party Party!)
We also wanted to fit in Mykonos but this trip already seems like alot of traveling in 2 weeks.
Our mission is to party and sight see at the same time. *
I would love some advise on organizing this trip and figuring cost for flights/trains to make the most out of our Stay in Europe!*
Thanks,
Danny
Danny, your itinerary is pretty ambitious without adding the 4 days it will take to spend even a little time on Mykonos. You could easily shoot most of a day getting to Greece and most of another day getting to Mykonos, then 2 more to get to your next destination. Flying doesn’t necessarily help much since any flight takes 4 1/2 to 5 hours when you add time to get to/from airports, check-in time and security time to flight time.
For transportation for your itinerary… Take advantage of the high speed trains for Amsterdam, your destination in Belgium, and Paris. It will be the fastest and most convenient choice — faster than flying. Look for a cheap flight to Spain — either to Barcelona or directly to Ibiza. If you can’t find a reasonably priced flight then take an overnight train to Barcelona and either fly or ferry to Ibiza. Use our “cheap flights” forum — particularly the new user thread — for help finding cheap flights. A France/Benelux rail pass may save money over point to point tickets, depending on your willingness to advance purchase non-refundable special fare tickets on-line from the individual national rail company websites. Buying a point to point ticket from the Spanish border to Barcelona will probably be cheaper than buying a 3 country pass to add Spain.
Hey,
I’m Ken and I am travelling with my brother Scott and maybe some of my friends. I will be 18 and my brother will be 26. So far we plan to fly into London and stay for about 6 days, then to Barcelona for about 6 days, then to Florence for maybe 4 days, and then to Berlin for 3 or 4 days, then Amsterdam for a couple days. My brother travels just about annually so I am not worried about budgeting, but I am interested in hearing about places we really cannot miss for clubbing, cultural experiences, natural beauty, and beautiful women. I would also like to hear some pros and cons about rail vs. air travel. My dates and locations are tentative so I do not mind remodeling what I have so far. Thanks for the input!

Chindrop, Welcome! Looks like a nice trip.
Hi everyone
Me and my friend just graduated high school and are planning a 3-4 month trip on a eurail global pass in January. We’re hoping to hit all 24 countries, is that too ambitious?. I have dual Canadian-British citizenship so that I can go to England (I live in British Columbia) to work from sept to January – is Britain part of the EU? I’m wondering if either of us need to worry about visas. We want to make the trip as inexpensive as possible. Camping, cheap hostels or finding relatives, missing meals, public transportation, no alcohol, etc. Will going in an off-season make travelling any cheaper and are there still festivals and free things to do during this time? We’re going to start with the UK, then go to hot countries along the Mediterranean and go north in the late spring so it isn’t quite so cold. I’d also love to know about hidden gems that are off the beaten track-places that people don’t usually think of going to but provide a really genuine and beautiful cultural experience. Not super interested in major tourist attractions(besides museums, concentration camps and castles) but nothing like Big Ben or the Eiffel Tower. We’re not fans of alcohol but still want to experience local nightlife. We’re also pretty outdoorsy and love the sound of rock climbing, surfing, hiking, etc. I’m so happy I found this forum! It would be amazing to get some advice because we are going at this pretty blindly. I will definitely contribute after I’ve learned a thing or two on my trip!
Hello guys!
You have only 2 days to participate in our amazing film/traveling project “Veni Vidi Movie”. If you have made films during your travels, don’t hesitate and submit it on our website: http://en.millionyou… . The best part is that you all have a chance to win flight tickets! Good luck!
Greetings,
Marta

I was a heavy reader and poster on this site back in the 90’s before creating a spinoff site with some others, eurotrek. Anyhow, today I am a 35 year old most recently from NYC who is on a year plus long RTW and excited to get back into the community here!

Welcome, johnbeelick — sounds like a great trip and assuming you’re Canadian, you probably won’t have serious visa issues for your trip.
Hi Sunbear — remember you from both Eurotrip and Eurotrek. Not much going on here, right now and I’m not sure how we revive the site.
Thanks for the re-welcome! Certainly remember you as well Oldlady. Sad to hear the site isn’t booming, it seemed to have some life to it that’s why I resigned up!

Most of the life seems to be in the Trip Planner. That’s a great help in planning a trek.
Hi. I’ve been to Europe several times, but am planning a trip in September to introduce my wife to it. We’ll be getting around by train, and having decided the route and stops, I’m starting to fill in the details.
