Don, you may be able to best answer this question.  I am looking for flights into Munich on Sept. 27 and out of Zurich on Oct. 5.  The cheapest combination of flights I saw was $622 from Newark on United and returning to JFK on Swiss air.  The problem is, they are on different Airlines each way.  I would think that when I book this I wouldn’t be able to get that price because it will be two separate one-way flights which would raise the price if allowed at all.  Would this be possible and how would I book it?

ITA Software supposedly checks if fares from different airlines may be combined on the same ticket. Try Orbitz, b/c it runs on the ITA Software pricing engine. If Orbitz finds that same combination of fares online their booking fee is something like $10. If not you can try to force it to do so by explicitly specifying connection points. If you still can’t replicate that fare online (on Orbitz or elsewhere) try to call Orbitz.

Good look Seva, thanks.  It was $683 all taxes included but that seems pretty good to me.  I think I will try and wait because we saw it drop down to $472 last week but at least we know how to book it

Yeah, Orbitz are best I’ve seen at finding seats on multi-airline open-jaw itineraries that ITA turns up, yet not even Orbitz gets them every time. Also try it with Kayak and Mobissimo’s multi-city searches.
