I travelled around Italy by in January this year for two weeks by myself (apart from 3 days with a male friend) and loved every minute of it. I certainly had a few run-ins with men who thought they were God’s gift to women, but that’s not unusual in Italy. Just be direct with them and they get the message pretty quickly.
I visited Venice, Florence, Agrigento (Sicily),Sorrento and Brindisi and would go back to all of them again. I’d be lying if I said that I felt perfectly safe wandering around in the evening, but at the same time, if you take the sensible precautions you shouldn’t get into any sticky situations. Always walk in well-lit areas and walk next to other people (pretend you’re with them), try not to make too much eye contact with the men, and maybe be prepared to have a bit of a earlier night than you might in some other places!
Just one thing – I was only in Naples briefly (on my way to and from Sorrento) and was with a male friend at the time, but I must admit, I didn’t feel overly safe even with him. So, maybe steer clear of that town if you’re alone…Just a thought, anyway.

Thank you Shell, your message is very helpfull, so it is true about naples. I will go only to Rome and Florence. In Greece men do the same but usually the 30+ aged ones ,the youth never wissles or say anything here ,unless of course provoked by mini skirts

Anna, why not Venice too? If the problem is lack of time, well I can understand that then. But otherwise consider it . I’m visiting all three cities in January, and I’ll be a solo female, so I’m hoping for the best too.

yes im thinking of venice too (rome-firenze-venice) but i try to find a flight from venice to paris .I thought Venice is like Santorini (for couples) but i guess there are sites there to see that i must not miss (especialy art).
