Itinerary, My 1st Eurotrip
Mon, 01/16/2012 - 14:41
Here is my itinerary for my 1st Eurotrip. any suggestions???
Munich 2days
Frankfurt2days
Cologne1day
Amsterdam2days
Rotterdam1day
Brussels1day
Lille1day
Paris2days
Toulouse1day
Bilbao1day
Barcelona2days
Valencia1day
Toledo1day
and then Madrid4days…
I have a total of 26-28 days and a budget of $4000.
Thanx
I am leaving from Madrid with $3000 for 18 days
Barcelona, Paris, Amsterdam, Berlin, Prague, Munich, Düsseldorf
Barcelona, Paris, Amsterdam, Berlin, Prague, Munich, Düsseldorf
Why so many different places to stay? Rotterdam is minutes from Amsterdam by train. Stay in one and visit the other. Lille and Brussels are about 1/2 hour apart. Toledo is an hour from Madrid — a very doable day trip carrying minimal gear and not having to worry about finding, actually getting to and getting checked into new digs.
Overall, this is too rushed. Even a relatively short trip tends to kill half a day when you figure time to get to/from station, time to get settled and oriented in a new hostel and time dealing with check-in/check-out, train reservations and other logistics. That means 1/4 to 1/2 of your waking time will be spent in transit and dealing with logistics.
Thanx so much; so should i just get rid of couple places or combine couple places. Pretty much the main places i would like to visit are, Munich-Frankfurt-Amsterdam-Lille-Paris-Toulouse-Barcelona-Valencia and Madrid. What do you think?
Barcelona, Paris, Amsterdam, Berlin, Prague, Munich, Düsseldorf
I would try for an average of nearly 3 days per city, so your 9 cities would work out fine. You could add a 10th or even 11th city if you pick places that are relatively easy to get to from your other stops and you have 28 days “on the ground” (not counting your flights to/from North America) in Europe. Plan 3 or 4 days for Major cities like Paris and look for day trips. For example, Lille would be a reasonable day trip for Paris and if you’re only going to spend a day there anyway, you don’t need to pull up stakes and move to do it. Innsbruk and/or Salzburg would be great day trips from Munich.
Do you have a particular reason for choosing Frankfurt?
I really dont have a reason of Frankfurt, although couple of my close friends told me it was a beautiful city to visit. What other cities do you think i should go to??? what are your recommendations.
PS thanx so much!!!
Barcelona, Paris, Amsterdam, Berlin, Prague, Munich, Düsseldorf
Frankfurt is an attractive city from an urban planning perspective, but as a tourist to Germany, I wouldn’t prioritize it. There are other cities in Germany with greater architectural and cultural value. You’ve already included one of them on your list: Munich.
Cologne can be paired with the Rhine Valley. I’m not a Germany expert, so hopefully someone can chime in with more details.
It seems that you’re just connecting the dots with major cities. This is a bit of a mistake, because not all major cities have tourism value (Rotterdam can be skipped in favor of more time in Amsterdam or other places in the Netherlands), while you’re overlooking smaller towns or rural areas that are highly worth visiting.
Regarding Toledo: don’t exhaust yourself by moving around from hostel to hostel. Toledo can be a day-trip from Madrid. Plus, you didn’t tell us what time of year you plan to go. In the spring or summertime, I would spend a bit less time in Madrid (cut it down to 3 days [includes the day-trip to Toledo]), and spend more time in the Valencia region, IMO. Valencia city plus a town on the Costa Blanca, or explore a little bit of inland Valencia region, or Murcia. I love the Valencia region’s coast…parts of it are overdeveloped (avoid Benidorm), but gems like Altea and Alicante’s old town/waterfront are still there, and Calpe has a fantastic beach.
Do research before picking random placed to visit. Browse these forums There’s lots of wonderful suggestions in these forums. And do internet research on the countries you plan to visit. Discovering these countries online is half the fun, before physically going there. And of course, always feel free to come back with more questions.

Thanx for your advices…. im planning to leave during this coming summer. The reason im staying in Madrid that many days is because im visiting my brother and sister. What other cities do you recommend. FRANKFURT i will not go now, any other tips will be graetly appreciated. Thanx again
Barcelona, Paris, Amsterdam, Berlin, Prague, Munich, Düsseldorf
