Jet lag -- eating on flight

A colleague just returned to Britain from New Zealand, which is as big a time change as you can get. He was surprised to find no jet lag symptoms whatever, at any rate for the first two days. He said he had hardly eaten at all on the flights, and wondered if that was the reason.

Could it be that not eating on flights is a way to reduce jet lag? Anyone had this experience?
