Just B/C I Can't Wait
Fri, 06/16/2006 - 08:53
So i recently discovered this message board, and think it’s absolutely great. Now to the point. I attended my first Oktoberfest last year, however my 5th time to Munchen, had a ridiculous time, and am booked for this year with a couple friends. I’m so excited, I can’t wait, so I figured why not start a thread so I can kill time at work. So let’s hear it; what is everybody favorite festzelt and why???
Mine last year was das Hippodrom, ended up outside in the bier garten at 10:00am on a perfectly sunny saturday, met a ton of young people, a bunch of cute girls to boot, threw down more Spaten then i can remember, stayed till close and ventured to some club (can’t remember the name, though it was very close to the wies’n) with the people I was hanging with……..I could do that every Saturday
MM: Wilkommen. Stay-tuned, as we will be posting meeting times, places, contact #‘s for us Eurotrip fools!

Hey guys,
I’m new to this board and don’t know anything yet about Europe. I’ve recently been granted a sabbatical from work and am in the beginning stages of planning a trip to Europe. I’m 26 and single, so this Oktoberfest in Munich sounds right up my alley. How difficult is it to find a place at a hostel at this point? Does Munich fill to capacity during this event?
Munich is definately full to "capacity" during the 16 day event. However, flights are reasonable right now from the Eastern and Midwestern airports in the U.S. I would book a flight and hostel now, and not wait.
See for info: www.muenchen.de
also: www.oktoberfest.de
I might suggest the 4uMunchen hostel, Hotel Amba, or Pension at # 88 Schwanthaler str.

Not only will this be my first time to Oktoberfest, this will be my first time to Europe, period. It really hasn’t hit me yet—although at the same time, as I look around the website(oktoberfest.de) I’m dying over the fact that I will be there!!! I just can’t believe it, and I’m almost positive that this will likely be the first of MANY trips to come!!
A warm & sincere welcome – rookie!

Guaranteed to change your perspective on life & the world. Enjoy yourself & be a good ambassador for your country.
I/we (the wife included) are also taking our 1st trip to Europe and to Oktoberfest (and we’re in our 30’s)! Only spending 10 days, but we’ll get to visit Austria, Italy, Switzerland, and finish the whole trip off spending the last weekend in Munich (paid out the #%$* for a hotel) at Oktoberfest.
I’m so excited that I’m ready to have a beer here at my computer @ 9:30am!
Gkoll: Consider it money well-spent. I throw-down a couple of thousand each year on the OFEST!
Enjoy!

Now we are getting really close! The official 21-day countdown has begun… Only THREE lil weeks to go!

Funny the post is supposed to be about favorite Zelts….and no one replied with one. Well I will be the first and say I like the Spaten tent… not too crazy but still alot of fun…my second choice is of course the Hofbrau totally crazy, good beer, and lots of aussies!
Good point there Herr Walshy! The Man is a true veteran of the Fest, so he does know his stuff. Let’s see…
I like:
Augustiner zelt
Hippodrom
Weinzelt
Paulaner
Hacker-Pshorr
Spaten
Oschentenbra.

I’ll be flying over on the 30Sept and getting there early the 1st Oct.. Does anyone know what it’s like during the last 3 days of the festival??? How far is the festival from Marienplatz???
The Oktoberfest is great from "bell to bell", meaning all 16 days!
The Marienplatz is a nice walk, perhaps 20 mins (1.75 miles) from the fesl grounds (Theresienweise), etc. Not bad at all.

I’m also only there the last weekend, so I hope it’s a blast!
Since we are talking locations, does anyone know how far the "Arabella Sheraton Grand Hotel Munich" is from the festivities?
Great! Thanks for the info Sunskin!
I stayed at the Sheraton in 2003 during Oktoberfest. It’s a good way. 10 stops on the U4 line. Here’s a map of the subway line between Arabella Park Stop and Oktoberfest grounds. Subway entrance is really close to the hotel and comes up right at the Oktoberfest so it’s real convenient.

Scroll Down to Munich Subway Map and the route is highlighted
Thanks for the link…I was hoping to be a little closer, but oh well.
I guess it isn’t bad for making reservations within a month of the fest.
I just made my reservations at the easy palace hostel…on Friday. People tend to cancel this close to the fest because they thought they were coming….yah I got to switch rooms twice while I am there….more people to meet!
Great way to look at it…we actually have three people staying in one room (I couldn’t find a hotel room that accommodate three)so I thought a larger hotel might night notice…
If I change, it’s only like a $30 charge (I booked on hotels.com)…do you think it’d be worth it, or have any suggestions?
I would say that $30 is fair, especially during the O-Fest.. People in Munchen tend to mark-up everything 33% to 40% in Sept.
We are really close now! (Only 7.5 days!!!)
