Korea to Italy - I have three days
Tue, 03/22/2005 - 21:44
I’m in SK with family and they’re leaving on the 8th of July. I’d love to make my way west slowly and check out China, India, etc….but unfortunately I have to attend a conference in Rome on July 11-13.
I’m doing this trip on the cheap. Any ideas? My experience is limited to eastern/western europe railways. Thanks.
Come on guys? Anything? What should I expect to pay for a train for that type of distance. What amount of time are we talking about…is this even do-able in 2-3 days time, etc…
Am I missing something? You want to take a train from South Korea to Rome? Over 2-3 days time?
If you are then you might need one of these: http://www.scooterli…
You can’t be serious, either that or you have never looked at a globe in your life.
You need to fly to Rome. Maybe you can stop one place for a day or two at the most that is it.
You should know that taking a train from SK is impossible. Pusan to Seoul is as good as it gets. Or I can recommend Kwangju – the Mad Season is a nice bar.
You can take the boat to Tanguk in China from Incheon (which I recommend) but that takes over 24 hours and departs only a few times a week.
By rail you would have to get a Chinese visa, take the boat or fly to Beijing, get a Mongolian visa, take the train to UB, then get a Russian visa and take the train to Moscow. You may want to fly directly to Beijing as it will cut down a day, so it should take you 9 days instead of 10 to get to Moscow.
For Moscow to Rome by train, I recommend using the transport forum.
But what you really should do is fly to Tokyo, and from there direct to Rome. That is your best bet.
He wants to do it slowly in 2-3 days?
LOL. Not exactly. I was asking for a sanity check – is it even possible type-of-thing. It looks like its really not unless I do a lot of finagling. I was always considering a plane ticket as my first choice but wanted to see how possible rail was. The thing is, I already have a ticket booked from SK back to the US. It’s with Korean Air and I’m trying to see if its something that I can pay $100 and change my flight.
