Laptop & Camera questions?
Mon, 03/17/2008 - 12:41
Okay, for my first backpacking trip to europe, i will want to take a lot of pictures and I was thnking of just putting them on my laptop. WOuld you reccomend bringing your laptop for your camera? or get extra storage on your camera so you dont have to worry about safety or having the laptop stolen?? any help much appreciated?

I wouldn’t take a laptop, either. Either spare memory cards, or upload them to your gmail or flikr acct. at a cafe or library.
yeah thanks thats what i was thinkin cuz of the hassle of having it.
I asked myself the same question a long time ago but came to the same conclusion.
I am leaving for Europe later this week with a decent SLR and an Archos 605 — it’s a PMP with an 80gb hard drive that will download images from my camera. The only qualms I have with it is that it means I’ll be carrying more things (plugs, cables), and another pricey item to watch over.
Also, these days it’s not too expensive to buy a bulkload of memory cards (depending on the format) if you find the right deals —stretching the time between uploading data further. I’ve read of people burning discs at cafes and mailing them home but I never really considered that route myself.
I love pictures…and love taking pictures…
haha.
But I’m not bringing a camera this summer! Weird, isn’t it? I can’t figure out why, but for some reason my mind is just made up about this. I just hate how cameras can’t come close to capturing the true beauty of the people/places/things you see when you travel…so this time around if people wanna know about my trip they’ll just have to endure a few hours of stories
Just reminded me of a John Mayer song, 3×5, “didn’t have a camera by my side this time…hoping I would see the world through both my eyes.”
Guess that’s my mindset too!
…That said, I can wait to see y’alls pictures!
