Laptop & General Packing
Thu, 04/02/2009 - 06:39
Hi,
I will be travelling through France and Spain for 3 weeks and then working in France for the rest of the summer. I want to bring my laptop for those last 3 months, but at same time im not sure that carrying it along with me for the first 3 weeks around France and Spain is exactly practical.
Also Im most likely not gonna pack light because again 4 months is a long time, and im gonna need my things. Is there any place where I can leave a suitcase maybe, for about three weeks then go pick it up.. I know this may sound like the worst question ever but i really dont wanna travel with my suitcases and i dont wanna leave things that I need behind.
Thanks a lot!

Although i have no experience with it, there are several luggage courier companies, that will transfer stuff from your home to your destination. So you could have someone at home send the additional suitcase by one of these delivery companies when you arrive in France. As i say i don’t know much about the cost’s or quality of the service. May be worth looking in to it if you are desperate for the extra belongings to be with you in France

You can generally leave a bag at “left luggage” or in a locker at a major train station or airport for up to a month. However, it’s expensive (3 to 5 euros per bag per day is the norm) and they probably won’t knowingly take your laptop. We carried a briefcase that looked like a computer bag and were usually questioned about it’s contents and told they wouldn’t store a computer. Read all the stuff at the locker or luggage room carefully as items stored for more than a week may be moved to a different site. We left a bag in a locker at the Helsinki airport last summer. No problem for us, as it was there for 6 days, but the information said luggage left more than 7 days would be moved to a storage room and “where” wasn’t too clear. If you’re leaving something for 3 weeks, I’d plan on retrieving it a full day before it’s needed or before a flight.
The European rail companies provide baggage service and for a fee will transfer a bag — including door to door service to your hotel/hostel or wherever you’re staying. It takes some looking, but you should be able to find out about it on the individual national rail company websites.
I dont feel too comfortable leaving it in a locker.. because you never know how safe those are, but i think i will definitely look into having it delivered straight to the end of my trp. that seems like the easiest option.. and safest.. lol
Thank you!!
