LAX to PAR, ROM back to LAX
Mon, 04/12/2010 - 03:48
Hi Eurotrippers, just found this site/forum, wow, how cool!
So I’m going to a wedding near Paris, going from LAX to Paris on 06/23. Then I would like to fly back from Rome, unless there is a huge financial incentive not to do multicity (like at least $200 difference), but my searches thus far have not suggested that price is that much different. I’ve been looking several times a day for a couple of weeks now and right now at onetravel its about an even 1,000 all taxes incl.
I’m not sure if I should keep waiting? Some sites suggest 6-8 weeks before travel for Summer to Europe, but my French friend (the bride) said that last year her summer to France fares were lowest end of march/early April.
You guys really know your stuff and I’d appreciate any of your insights.
Grazie Mille!

No one can foretell the future, but I’m doubtful you are going to get this much cheaper, if at all. Fares could easily go up. It’s just how fares are going this year.
It’s looking like comparisons to last year are not useful for trying to figure out when to buy. This time last year you could have booked LAX to any number of cities for $600 no problem. There were good sales for summer travel in January, February, March, April, and May. So far this year there have been almost no deep sales for any departures after May 31. You may still see some, but with the rather minimal discounts we’ve seen for travel through May I’m not expecting much.
It might drop $200 right after you book, but I think it’s slightly more likely to go up $300-$400—if you don’t lock in this $1000-ish price. I just checked for you, guessing return date around June 3 or 4, and found $951 total with USAir; Delta and Continental have seats for just slightly more. If you want to come back on a weekend then it will probably cost $30-$60 more.
Consolidator Vayama.com has Continental LAX>CDG nonstop, and ROM>IAD>LAX on United for $960 total. This would be a good choice, both for price and convenience.
Thank you for the advice. Appreciate it.
