Lay-overs on International Flights?
Wed, 03/07/2007 - 02:45
I will be taking a Houston to London plane, but I was wondering if it is possible to set up a lay-over of 4 or 5 days in New York before London, or would I have to buy two separate tickets? Thanks in advance.
Deleted because don’s advice is more straightforward than mine..
London, Leeds, Manchester
Depends. If the airline connects you through New York, and it’s a US-based airline (such as Delta, AA, Continental, United) then a stopover might be possible by paying a stopover fee. I would book that through phone reservations, not via the web. You’ll pay maybe $20 more to book by phone. However, if you have a student ticket on a US airline that connects via NYC, then stopover might be possible for free or a small(er) fee—check the conditions of the student ticket(s) you’re interested in purchasing.
Thanks a lot Don, I will call around. Oh and I looked at some of the sites you reccomended earlier and found a multi-city flight from Houston to London and Madrid back for around $650, I just need to find out if it goes via New York. Other alternative is a Houston to New York flight which I think I can find for around $200 rt, and a New York to Europe rt. Again thanks for your expertise Don!
