London to Johannesburg
Sun, 11/21/2004 - 09:58
What do you think would be a reasonable price from London to S Africa and return ?
How long is the flight ?
Any suggesstions !!!!
I am leaving from US and traveling for 11 days
London, Brussels, Basel, Paris, London
London, Brussels, Basel, Paris, London

I went a few years ago and flew from Frankfurt to Joberg…I remember the trip taking something like 14 hours, and I think the flights are rather expensive. I don’t know about Euros, but I would say one way would be around $800…could be completely off though. Have you checked out the airline websites?
Its coming to about 3500.00 USD from US to London to J’bery to mumbai
Not sure if it is worth it for me or not and how tiring it is going to be…
It is just too expensive…i was hoping to get a decent price…

Wow, that is really expensive. Are you traveling during a peak tourism season? Right now it’s getting into summer in Africa…
Also, if you fly out of peak season you could probably use some frequent flyer miles…I don’t blame you though…that’s very expensive
This is on South Africa Air, check their website at http://ww2.flysaa.co….
Randomly I put in dates:
Heathrow <—> Jo’burg. Jan 20, 2005 – Jan 30, 2005 GBP 615.90
New York <—> Jo’burg. Jan 20, 2005 – Jan 31, 2005 USD 1279.93
(details below)
Quick note: In the US we use ‘round trip’, almost everywhere else in the world uses ‘return’. They mean the same thing.

CAPE TOWN INSTEAD
We went to Cape Town in January and drove the Garden Route – this was a great trip. Unless there is some special reason to go to Jo’burg I would highly recommend Cape Town and the Garden Route.
The peak tourist season runs Dec-Feb for SA. After and before that, seats get cheaper. It is about 9-10 hrs to Jo’burg, about 12 to Cape Town, where i fly to a lot. This is a big country and you are best off taking an internal flight to go to your destination unless it is close to Jo’burg. Both Praetoria and Jo’burg have substantial problems with violence/crime and are not especially fun cities. Cape Town is much safer, with many nearby trips. The Garden route is relatively (quite) safe, but one must always be watchful and prepared anywhere in SA, as the level of violent crimes is much higher than the rest of tourist Africa. Never travel any distance without a mobil.
