Just wondering why so many people think London is incredibly expensive? In my experience, as a visitor, it’s no more costly than other parts of the UK.

The one-day Travelcard is a tremendous bargain for getting around, there’s loads of cheap places to eat (try The Stockpot in Leicester Square, for example) and many of the museums are free. OK, some central London hotels are pricy (and impersonal) but you can find much cheaper accommodation in the suburbs.
