From London to Romania
Wed, 04/16/2008 - 10:33
i need a ticket from uk to romaina. I prefer not to fly. What is the best way to get to romainia from london for cheap? please help!
That’s one hell of a long trip via surface transport. According to Bahn.de, 33 hours or more. If you’re not going to stop along the way, anyway, then why not fly? Curious.
www.easyjet.com are on Gatwick-Bucharest
For me, the choice would be fly, or pick some place a whole lot closer to London than Romania. You’d be travelling roughly 2700 km overland to get to Bucharest.
Train would definitely be the most comfortable option for not flying, but flying will be a lot faster and probably a lot cheaper.
well, one of the reasons that i dont want to fly is because my friend and i make a deal. once we land in London we cant take any more planes. It’s all boats and trains/buses/hitchhiking. This isnt just a euro trip for us. This is a world wide trip. but…a 33 hour train ride is making me second guess it hahaha. thanks for the input.
The cheapest land transportation will most probably be more expensive than a flight.
Note: The roads in Romania are desolate.
Let me know what are your priorities: Do you want to get from London to Bucharest
a) the cheapest way
b) with minimum number of transfers
c) the quickest way
?
The cheapest way (also probably the least number of transfers) is to take a bus from London to Prague and then another one from Prague to Bucharest. The trip will cost about 100-150 euros and will take about 24 hours to Prague and about the same to Bucharest. Total of 50 hours of bus ride. Are you really willing to do this?
If you have any questions about Prague or Czech and Slovak republics, ask me.
If you only want to search train or bus connection within Czech&Slovakia and/or to neighboring countries, use www.cp.sk or www.idos.cz search engines. For domestic transport, they also show prices.
checked the prices and from london to bucharest is 34 euros. Cant beat that. Yeah, im looking for the cheapest way. I think thats it.
You could always tell your friend to meet you there. Meantime, you’ll have 1.5 days sightseeing and 2 good nights sleep, and (s)he’ll arrive haggard and frazzled, thinking this has to be one of the worst ideas (s)he ever had.
What Don said.
Eat the food, use the wrong verbs, and end up getting charged double.
34 € is really an unbeatable offer, considering it’s 1300 miles beeline. But I wouldn’t have balls to take it. Expect a not-so-new bus loaded with low-wage work immigrants from Romania (better say, unsuccessful low-wage-job seekers) on their way home and look forward to spending two days with them on board.
After the trip, please let us know how was it

how exactly did you get these cheap tickets from london to romania been searching the web endlessly for a cheaper alternative to flying!?
34 euros was flying on easy jet. Use www.whichbudget.com to see which budget airlines fly which routes and check our “cheap flights” forum for more tips and help.
Pricing international (from one European country to another) train tickets on line is almost impossible. The travel agency sites that show pricing will end up costing you at least 30% more than buying them at the station.
Keep in mind that was from April 2008, so it’s nearly 2 years old. Take Oldlady’s advice and use Whichbudget and Skyscanner.
