Looking for a great hostel in London
Tue, 07/06/2010 - 13:09
I am traveling through London later this month and I was looking for a hostel to stay at but really did not know what to look for. I want a place the is local to the city center or when everything is happening. I also want to be able to meet some people and stuff. But still have a little privacy. I am willing to pay a little more for that but not sure if I will get the full effect by staying at a hotel. Anyone have any suggestions or advice?
I am leaving from Houston with $10000 for 28 days
Dublin, Amsterdam, Paris, Nîmes, Monaco, Cannes, Saint-Tropez, Barcelona, Ibiza, London

I have not actually stayed there yet (my trip is in September) but the Astor Museum Inn has some good ratings on here/hostelbookers and hostelworld (80-something %). And they are RIGHT NEXT to the British Museum and easily accessible from Heathrow airport (picadilly line goes straight from there to Russell Sq tube, which is about 5-10 min’s walk from the hostel).

+1 on the Astor Museum Inn
I would recommend it too.

Does anyone know anything about the Generator? All the sites I find are tell me it is on of the greats….

I looked at the Generator when trying to decide where to book but decided against it because it was SO huge (800 beds) and it’s reputation for being a partying, not sleeping, hostel. I like a good party as much as the next person, but I also like not being woken up by rowdy drunk people at 4am. Also, there was alot of concern over the multitude of high school groups who stay there on the reviews when I looked.

There is a hostel called manor Lodge which is in Brondesbury Park. Never been inside but I pass that all the time.
It is on Zone 2 about 20 minutes from Oxford Street, so I assume the rooms to be a little bigger and cheaper.
They have a website I would assume.
