Lost Eurail Pass!!
Thu, 08/25/2005 - 17:33
Ok so I am leaving the United States for Europe in 10 days and I have somehow lost my rail pass before even going! Does anybody know if there is someway of getting a new one or a refund somehow. I am pretty sure I bought the pass insurance so I am not sure if that helps but I cant find a number anywhere to call eurail and get information. Or if anyone has any advice on getting a new cheap one because I really cant afford to buy another one. I am stressing out and any information would be helpful! Thank you soooo much!

did you get the optional railpass insurance. If so you can call the eurailpass office. Do a search online for the official website.
Any clue who you bought your railpass from? That’s who would deal with the "
ass protection." If you used "buy a railpass" at the top of this site, here’s the link: http://www.railkey.c…
The same procedure, changing the address to "railkey" works if you bought your pass from railpass.com
I did purchase the rail insurance but I called rail connection where I purchased the pass and they told me that it could not be refunded since I have not even used it yet. I am kind of debating about calling them and saying that I never recieved it, I know that is horrible but I am desperate and cant afford another one and I am leaving soon! Thanks for the advice, if anyone else has any ideas it would be much appreciated. Thanks!
Too bad about that.
Rail connection is specific about pass protection not going into effect until the pass is validated in Europe. Most of the other sites don’t clearly exclude situations like yours where the pass was lost before you got to Europe. However, the information describing pass protection says it’s to protect you "while traveling in Europe," so you’d probably have the same problem no matter where you bought the pass.
Em, how would they know if you validated it or not? I’ve travelled with rail passes (Scanrail and Eurail) a few times and never had to do more than present it at a service window for a seat reservation, then write in the date on the pass. To the best of my knowledge, the pass was never verified via computer or anything. This was in Germany and Scandinavia over the past 4 years.
Don’s got a point. You could buy point to point tickets (or another pass) after you got to Europe. Carefully follow all the instructions for what you need to file a claim and file a claim after you get back, indicating that you’d lost your pass before you ever used it. You may have a cash flow problem, and you may spend more on rail tickets (a pass costs 10% more if you buy it in Europe), but at least you’d eventually get the original cost of the pass back.
Thank you so much for all the help! I think I am just going to buy a new pass and then do the usual procedure for claiming a stolen one for my original. Not even in Europe and already screwing things up, hopefully things will go better once I am there. Thanks again!
