Madrid to Paris? Is train comfortable?
Fri, 03/25/2005 - 09:26
Hi all,
I’ll be going to Madrid from 4/29 to 5/8 and plan on taking a side trip to Paris. However, I checked Easyjet.com, their round trip fare is almost 200 Euro! Therefore, I am thinking that it might be cheaper to take the overnight train. Should I be frugal and take the 4-berth cabin or splurge by taking the 2-berth cabin? I heard its like sleeping on a bookshelf though. Or should I just skip Paris? Thanks for all your input in advance!

SKIP PARIS?!?
That is just preposterous. Honestly, unless you splurge for a sleeper which would probably end up being more expensive than a plane ticket, don’t excpect a great nights sleep because you will be woken up at times by the conducter checking tickets. I say go for the flight. and check this website out.

Okay what about easyjet? They dont fly from Madrid but they do fly out of Barcelona/Girona. What I would do (to be frugal) is take the bus from Madrid to barcelona (www.alsa.es) its about 20 euros one way. Then see if then take the bus from Barcelona to Girona (about 1.5 hours). That’s only if you see a cheap flight from Girona to Paris.
P.S. DONT skip Paris!!!! It’s SOOOOOOOO amazing! My favorite city in the world (and I’ve been to about 13 countries in 1.5 years)
Sorry, when I wrote Easyjet, I meant to say ryanair. I checked..if you leave from Girona on the 8th of April it will be about 22 euros one way (thats with taxes)…I am guessing your ticket will come to about $50 roundtrip. You can def. save a good $100 by taking the bus, then flying. I’ve done this route before so I can give you the stops of where to catch the buses, etc.
1. flying would be way better and probably cheaper than train.
2. I’d skip Paris. You’ve only got a little over a week. Just getting to and from Paris will eat up the better part of 2 days — ANY flight takes at least 5 hours by the time you add check-in time and getting to and from airports. A flight in the middle of the day kills the whole day for sightseeing.
Unfortunately, I agree with oldlady. If you’ve got the time, Paris is great. You don’t have the time (unless you fly).
Agree. Skip it.
Thanks a bunch everyone! I’ll scratch the train idea since I get grouchy w/o a good night of sleep. If I find a good flight deal, I’d really want to see Paris. If not, just more excuses for me to come back to Europe again = ). Thanks again folks.
i am also planning on doing the madrid to paris overnight train, I was wondering how much it would cost for a coucette and reservation if I got in europe?
If you are looking for another airlines that flys into paris try vueling.com they have pretty cheap fares and they fly from major airports.
They have an offer right now for bookings made at least two weeks in advance: 59 euros for a tourist class couchette. Otherwise a tourist class couchette is 97 for students, or 129 for the regular adult fare.

So is that an additional 59 euros even if i have eurorail pass?
