I need some help with transportation for the rest of my Eurotrip, which has taken some unexpected turns after having met several wonderful Europeans half way through that wish for me to stay with them. I have a Eurail pass that I have not used yet that is valid for 5 days in France, Italy, and Switzerland. I will be in the south of France in a few days from now and can be dropped off close to the eastern border by the end of the week, so I don’t really need the French portion of the pass.

I have a flight set to leave Rome on Oct 2 but want to spend a week with a beautiful German woman from Sept 30 in Berlin. I have a few options and I am limited by money, not time.

I can choose to not use the railpass at all and buy another rail pass or point-to-point tickets. That will cost $70 to cancel. If I abandon Italy altogether and go from Lyon, France to Interlaken, Switzerland, then from Interlaken to Berlin (and possibly from Aachen, Germany to Frankfurt), should I buy tickets individually or another railpass from Europe? If the latter, where do I buy the tickets? What about flights from within Europe to get from Interlaken to Berlin?

I can continue through Italy (Venice, Cinque Terra, Florence, Rome) and abandon Switzerland (not enough time), and take a long train or flight from Rome to Berlin on Sept 30. Should I cancel my current rail pass and buy a new one for Italy, Switzerland or Austria, and Germany or buy point-to-point tickets?

Lastly, I have a question about changing my flight (which will be answered when I actually call the airline, but I wouldnt mind having an idea of what to expect). My airline, AirCanada, requires $200 to change my flight. My Oct 2 flight goes from Rome to Frankfurt to Canada to the US. If I just change the date of departure back a week, will I just incur the $200 fee? What if I want to change the departing city to somewhere in Germany?
