Hi Folks!

I’m just back from working in Ireland and bumming around Europe and am already planning my next trip. This one will be a doozy… I’ll be done uni and plan on travelling, living, and working my way around the world over about 3 to 5 years. I’ll start in Australia on a year-long work visa and have decided on Melbourne.

Does anyone have any info on this city? It seems like most Australian travellers I’ve met have been from here, so I’m assuming it’ll have a cool backpacking vibe.

I’m considering Fitzroy as an area to live in… it sounds pretty cool. Does anyone have rough prices on rent? Where else in the city would be a good place to settle? I’m also curious about some great, smallish, laid back hostels where I might be able to meet up with other people doing the same thing. In Ireland I lived in a hostel for 3 months and I’m not ruling that out in Melbourne if I can find a cool one.
