Morrocco
Sat, 09/06/2008 - 18:24
Anyone from Morrocco or visited the region frequenting this website?
I am leaving from US and traveling for 11 days
London, Brussels, Basel, Paris, London
London, Brussels, Basel, Paris, London

If you’re looking for a review, I can only pass along a couple of second hand reviews that were good. Nothing very specific though.
Eat the food, use the wrong verbs, and end up getting charged double.
Yes, please pass on the reviews and then see what questions would come out of it. In any case, I am going to the local library and pick up a guide book.
But reality might be quite different.
last month on a flight somewhere, I actually met a couple who had their pockets picked up not once but twice in casablanca even though they were traveling with a tour group,
How do i ensure this does not happen?

The reviews were very general and a while back but definitely gave Morocco a thumbs up.
Pick pockets are all over. One was working the crowd in Prague while I was there. When he started to go into a friends bag I went over to stand by her and stared him down. The only advice I’ve been given is to keep your eyes open and to keep items in the front pockets. Depending on the weather you might want to keep a jacket with internal pockets and zippers. This is a case where a money belt might not be a bad idea either.

I visited Tangiers on a day tour from Spain — it was not a great experience. If a day tour to Tangiers is the only way you’ll ever get to Morocco, then I’d go for it. If you can work out a longer time period and traveling on your own, then skip Tangiers and spend a few days. I think day 1 is largely “culture shock” with all the kids begging and people shoving stuff to buy in your face. Once you get outside Tangiers and over the initial oh-my-god the reviews are good.
Thanks for the feedback. Unfiortunetly something on my browser is kicking me out of Eurotrip and I still cannot seem to figure out what to do. So the reason of my delayed response.
I am only spending 1 day in Casablanca and another day in Rabat and return. Have you visited these places? If yes, how is it?

Try google’s new ‘Chrome’ browser. It might work better for you.

I am now in Casablanca so if anyone has any specific questions feel free to ask.

How is it? Ive been considering visiting Morrocco for quite some time now
I am only frequenting between Casablanca and Rabat. Rabat is very small and is the seat of the Government. Casa is mostly a commercial city and except a beautiful mosque, it is not worth doing anything here.
However, I am told that Marakesh is a must see and considering that my family is not with me, I am letting it pass.
There is another city called Fez which might be a treat however, the south has the western sahara location where one gets a good view of the western side of the sahara desert. Camel excusions are done here but knowing that there is trouble brewing in the South, i will be skipping.
Moreover Tunisia is a far more better place to see the sahara anyway.
There is always a next time.

Any cheap places to stay?

Due to safety reasons and being alone, I stayed at the Army royal Sheraton. It is quite expensive unless you can get a package deal which was being availed by most Americans. But for the price they were charging, this was a very ordinary Sheraton. Since it is considered a business hotel, they did provide me with a club house pass and that was quite decent. After long trips back from Rabat, relaxing at the club house was quite nice.
However, if you have a smaller budget, the east west hotel provides at about 70,00 USD. Thats where most of the other colleagues of ours stay.
There was a hotel close by to me for 110.00 which was cheap for Morocco. if needed, I will get the card and write down their contact information.
The drawback: very small lobby with a restaurant.
But next door is a great restaurant with 2 minute walking distance from the Medina and to fast food centers like McDonalds or KFC etc.
This week one of my colleagues did take a ride to Marakesh and she should be back on Wednesday. If i do meet her up on Thursday, I will try getting you their hotel info.
