Most overrated places?
Sat, 03/22/2008 - 07:24
Of all the places you’ve been to, which was your biggest let down? What wouldn’t you recommend?

Coming home
What delfrio said.
Definitely some of my trips have been better than others, but I honestly can’t think of any place in Europe where I was truly let down.
Yeah, you two are right.
Although, Frankfurt was a “letdown” but I wasn’t expecting anything to begin with… I was more a victim of circumstance at that point.
Bath, Haltwhistle, London, Füssen, Freiburg, Stuttgart, Speyer, Nördlingen, Salzburg, Hallstatt, Salzburg, Rome, Ostia Antica, Athens, Delphi, Athens
I would have to say Milan as the biggest let down.
Athens, Páros, Náxos, Mýkonos, Náxos, Íos, Thíra
“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” – Mark Twain
One man’s overrated is another man’s wonderful.
I don’t regret a single place I’ve been to. Every place is a learning experience, and every place has its value, even if it just means that you can say you’ve been there.

Yeah I guess there’s something to that…

but still, I think a lot of people go to Europe to see places that don’t look like America… Frankfurt looked like freaking NYC [
Bath, Haltwhistle, London, Füssen, Freiburg, Stuttgart, Speyer, Nördlingen, Salzburg, Hallstatt, Salzburg, Rome, Ostia Antica, Athens, Delphi, Athens
munich. i found it really bland and characterless.
I was in Munich a long time ago, but I remember feeling much the same about it.
(I tend to agree with Feicht and Davy, too, but along with Feicht, my expectations were not dizzyingly high to begin with for either of those places, and there was never a letdown.)
I found Chisinau very overrated
LOL, Chisinau? I’ve never been there. What took you to Moldova?? What’s it like over there?
He builds and maintains AK-47’s for revolutionary goverments around the globe.

Anywho, I’ll have to disagree with you guys about Munich, I actually liked it there

Luv_the_beach’s post is spot on.
Nonetheless, I found Eisenach and the Wurtburg to be a pretty big let down. I also though the Cinque Terre was highly overrated, but then I did “do” it as a day trip from Milan.
Munich was one of my favorites. Yeah, there is not much to see as far as sites, but if you are a beer drinker, it’s heaven. The Hopfbrauhaus (sp?) was one my favorite places in Europe and the people there were a blast there.
To me, Amsterdam is overrated.
