For me, movies and travel have always gone together — going places I’ve seen on the big screen and seeing places on-screen that I’ve been to gives me a buzz.
What are your favorite films set in Europe? Why would they be worth renting?
Here are my two nominees. "Before Sunrise", with Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy, was made just a few years ago and is set in Vienna. It’s a love story ala "My Dinner with Andre" — the whole movie revolves around their chats at just about every spot in the city. You get a virtual tour of the coffeehouses, the Ring, the parks, and lots of other spots while you watch them fall in love. Quite romantic, and Julie Delpy is spectacular in every way (don’t drool in front of the others who may be watching, guys.) The other is for those going to or returning from the Interlaken area in Switzerland. "The Eiger Sanction", with Clint Eastwood and George Kennedy, was made in the 70’s. There are amazing shots of the Eiger – Moench – Jungfrau Alps and some relatively believeable acting in this action-thriller that always makes me want to go back.
