Hi! I was just reading your post about Edinburgh and wondering if you could answer a couple of questions for me?

My story is that I’m going to Europe with 2 girlfriends and we are starting with a 2 week Contiki tour, then working in the UK for 2-3 months, then backpacking around some more at the end – probably 2-3 months also. We are Canadian, so are legal to work there and are interested in seeing the sights, meeting people (locals and fellow travelers) and having fun. We are all 25 and have pretty diverse backgrounds.

So, we are thinking about working in Edinburgh for our 2-3 month stint. Do you know if many employers offer live in accomodation or are you on your own? If you have to find it yourself, is it easy to find something for 3 people and approx. how much would it be? You mentioned that there we help wanted signs all over… what sort of work were they for? Bars, offices, retail?

The thing that concerns us is that if we take a chance and go up to find work, we might end up spend A LOT of money for the first while before we find jobs.

How about the cost of living in Edinburgh? Less that small English towns or more? Is it as expensive as London? And are there lots of things happening? Bars, Clubs, Festivals?

Our other option is we have been offered a resort job in southern England which offers live-in accom. but is out in the sticks, so we wouldn’t be experiencing the daily life of a new city. So we are trying to make a decision now, but it’s hard to turn down a sure-thing for the possibility of something better.

Sorry for all the questions, thanks in advance for any help you or anyone else can provide.
Cheers!
