Hi all,

I will be traveling end of May/early June and hitting some cities/countries I’ve never been to before.

Any suggestions on the best way to go from Munich to Interlaken and then Interlaken to London?
I’ve never been to Switzerland so I’m really excited to take in all the scenery. I’ve heard the train ride is an experience in itself.

I am on a very tight budget though so need to be as frugal as possible.

Thank you!

To get from Interlaken to London a cheap flight is your best option. Bern is the nearest airport, but there aren’t any cheap flights from there. There are, however, rather similar cheap options from Geneva, Basel, and Zurich. Basel and Zurich are both under 2.5 hours by train from Interlaken, and Geneva is just over. Zurich looks to be pretty easy as you take a train to Bern and then switch to a train that will stop at Zurich airport. Check out flight options at http://skyscanner.co… and book as soon as you know your dates to get the cheapest fares. Skyscanner will let you search for the cheapest fare from Switzerland to London on your date, just enter “Switzerland” in the “from” field when you do your search.

Munich to Interlaken is 7 to 7 1/2 hours and 2 or more connections by train, with no reasonable overnight train options. I’d look for a cheap flight for this leg, although it might take that long to fly when you include time to get to/from airports and check-in time. It looks like advance purchase train tickets are as low as €49 on this route.

Swiss alps are beautiful, but visiting Switzerland can be very expensive. Just a heads-up if you weren’t aware. Train ticket prices in Switzerland are steep—especially without a pass. Getting to Interlaken, as others noted, is not an inexpensive endeavour. Looks like the 1hr 58min journey from Basel SBB station to Interlaken comes in at 56 Swiss Francs.

Here’s flights all May from all London airports to all Swiss airports:
