Has anyone else had this happen? I have spent over 8 hours making a custom trip map, painstakingly adding each location (for a three month trip). I had pretty much finalized my itinerary (foolishly only on this site). When I went to add a couple more locations last night (6/11/09), the entire itinerary got erased when I added a city. Is there ANY way to recover this information? I have a good idead of my places to go, but it took a lot of time to log everything in.

btw, were you trying from a different computer and was the trip not published??? if the trip is not published and you are not logged in when you create it, then it will be owned by the computer. it is recommended to log in and work on your trip otherwise you can loose it if you clear your browsers cookies. also, make sure you are using the same browser (firefox or whatever) when you access you trip (if you were not logged in when you were working on it before).

just some thoughts, i have not had a chance too look into it yet.

My trip wasn’t erased, but the cities were. It happened when I went to go change the name of the trip. I just went in there and added the cities over again.

I changed the way that the trip data was stored in this last major release. I did a lot of testing to make sure that the trips that were already stored would be merged into the new trips app without any problems, but it is possible I missed something.

Let me know if you can give me more details about what happened…

Yea, like will said, if you added cities and didn’t publish or save the changes, chances are those changes are still stored on the computer you before you lost your eurotrip. Have you used more than one computer?

I am leaving from New York, NY and traveling for 64 days
Reykjavik, London, Lille, Berlin, Kraków, Lviv, Istanbul, Selçuk, Pamukkale, Kızkalesi, Göreme, Kars, Bat'umi, Akhalts'ikhe, Tbilisi, Telavi, Istanbul

Hi there,

thanks for the replies. Here is exactly what happened …

I had created a trip called “Broo’s Eurotrip” and had been adding cities for about two weeks. I logged in to add two more cities last week (on the same computer I had been using the whole time) and added one more city. When i did that, it erased every other city on my trip schedule/map. I desperately tried to use my “back” button the browser, hoping all my cities would come back, but no such luck. ????

I appreciate you assistance, but don’t worry about it too much. I’m going to try and find another site, as I would hate to be in the middle of my trip and have this happen again.

The way it used to be, unpublished trips were not saved on the server until you published them. I changed that with this last upgrade so that all trips ‘published’ or ‘unpublished’ are saved on the server, so this can’t happen anymore. I am not sure what happened to your trip unless your cookies got cleared at some point. Your trip should have been automajically updated to the new app when I released the new app. Unfortunately there was an issue with the upgrade path that I must have missed, sorry about that.

The good thing is that all of your trips will now be saved on the server regardless of your working environment, so you can’t loose it now.

Let me know if you have any luck finding another trip planning application. One of the reasons that this app exists is because there were no good ways for travelers to plan their itineraries…

http://www.ballofdirt.com/ is a cool page for sharing photos and journals from your trip, but so far http://www.eurotrip.com/ has been the best site for planning out your trip that I’ve ever used. Keep up the good work
