need a little help
Fri, 11/18/2005 - 12:29
so I decided to move to europe. The problem is I’m here already and I never did any real research about finding a job or work visas or anything. My girlfriend and I are currently in germany staying with friends. I have friends in spain and the UK as well. I plan on visiting with them all. The problem is that I wish to prolong my stay in europe as long as possible. For example it would be ideal to get my masters here or maybe even keep going and get a phd. But first I need to aquire a job and a stable place to call home. If anyone has any information on work visas or work in general anywhere in europe but especially in germany, uk, or spain pleasssse let me know. I’ll take any help or suggestions, my money is limited which makes my stay limited.
thanks

tough position you are in. I am going to assume you are American and tell you that it is really hard to find a work visa in the EU unless you are specially trained in a rare field. Visit Lonelyplanet.com and check the message board there. It had loads of info.
Tough indeed. Jobs most likely to be found are tutoring in languages (esp. english)and math, things involving children and host families, working in bars etc… Most of those don’t ask for work visa. Anything else won’t pay because they have enough students to take a year off and work as interns (most of the time for almost nothing). As far as visa goes it’d be easier to apply for schools, get accepted then get a student visa or a student card depending on the country. So, taking the next 6 months off, working small jobs to save up and sharing quarters with other students seems like a solution but before that you need to make sure that you are there legally by getting a long stay visa. You can also hit the posting boards and try your luck. iAgora.com comes to mind.
Good luck!
