Need suggestions on the places to visit in India?
Thu, 01/28/2010 - 04:17
India is a rich country and I would be soon visiting the place with my friends. I have sorted out the places that would be on my top list. But, as we do not have all the time in the world so we have to shortlist some really good places to make our trip. The agenda for the visit would be some real good places that have a mark of history and cultural heritage. We do have our interests in such fields and would like to have some suggestions on that.

Hey…nobody told me they moved India to Europe
“I haven’t been everywhere, but it’s on my list”
I have only been in the northern-central part of India (mostly in Rajasthan). I did the “golden triangle” visiting New Deli, Agra, and Jaipur. I was there for about 10 days and tried to cram in a LOT. I hired a driver who drove me to each location and at times I was in the car for 5 hours straight. It is difficult to really get a feel for a place when you are rushing but since India is abundant in beautiful, interesting, and unique sights, it is easy to get a sense of life and culture in a short period there. I absolutely loved Rajasthan and didn’t mind being in the car observing people during their daily activities. There are plenty of forts, temples, etc to visit and if you go through a travel agency, they can put together a package to meet you needs (interests, time constraints, budget, etc.) and can make it almost-all-inclusive (except meals). I did this and was on a serious budget but I got all the transportation, accommodation, tour guides and escorts (as a solo woman, I needed a male escort to tour the mosques). It was worth it though I wish I had slightly thicker skin/was more assertive at times. Be careful, many drivers make a commission when they take tourists to their “friend’s” shops for “discounted” items. It is kinda hard to get out of being taken to carpet-makers, silversmiths, and artisans of the like but at the same time, you do get to learn about the crafts and see things made. India is amazing.
