New Driver License in Canada
Sun, 04/22/2007 - 23:11
For Canadians…. you’re most likely aware of the New Driver License…..
my question is….if you are 18 and have your New Driver License in Canada, can you rent a car in europe?

Most rental companies won’t rent to drivers under 21 in Europe — hopefully someone will respond with the names of the few companies that do. Occasionally there are restrictions about how long you’ve had a driver’s license. Some companies require that you’ve held a license for 6 months before they’ll rent to you.
ahh.. ic ic…thanks

Look into short-term auto lease. Renault and Peugeot have it. I think you can be 18 and do that.
Seva — you’re right, I have no idea how they’d know how long you’ve had a driver’s license. However, I was checking on a car rental in Italy the other day and the “must have had the license for 6 months” requirement showed up — maybe they ask and it’s honor system.
And of course if it is an honor system, don’t be tempted to get around it, because then your insurance would likely be invalid, leaving you exposed to enormous liability.
The year that I got my driver’s licence, was the first year that they kept a record of when you obtained them. All of my renewed licence’s since then, all state right on them that i’ve had my licence since Dec. 2, 1999. It’s not as easy to get away with here. I’m not sure how it works in other Canadian provinces though??
I was not aware one needed a drivers license for a sled.

Sunskin — I was not aware one needed a drivers license for a sled.
So you thought you could rent a sled with just a buggy licence?
You could not rent a car in Denmark, but you probably couldn’t afford it, either.
