New Foundland, Quebec or New Brunswick?
Fri, 06/02/2006 - 04:32
I’m thinking of a two week trip up to Canada at the end of July. I want to go where it won’t be hot and humid. I am dreading the scorching heat this summer. Last summer we had like 40 days in a row where it was 95 or above plus high humidity. We’re already using air conditioners and fans right now.
I’m really not sure how I’ll do this. I could take my car and drive up there. I’m not even sure where to go. How hot does it get up there around that time? It can’t be anything like down here can it? Hell, I’ll drive as far north as I can if I have to.
What would you do? I’ve got a 10 year old Honda Accord with 123k miles on it. Would you drive a decade old car that far? I could rent a car. Man, I hate highway driving some times though. Especially during busy times.
Where should I go? Not sure what I’d do either. I always wanted to visit Quebec City, but I bet that place gets packed in late July. Would rather stay away if that’s the case.
Anywhere that’s nice, not hot and that isn’t crowded would be great.

Hey Travis,
Cil asked me to see if I could help you out any with this trip. I’ve been to all 3 of those Canadian provinces, so hopefully I can suggest something for you. Are you from Florida too? If so, that’s probably a long drive to take in your car, but i’m sure it can be done.
If your looking for a place that doesn’t get that hot, then Newfoundland would be a great place to go. The only problem is that it’s so far away, and it takes a long time to get there in a car. The ferry alone can be either 6 or 14 hours (depending on which part you go to). You may be able to get a cheap flight there from someother part of Canada though.
I’ve only been to Quebec City in May, so i’m not sure what it’s like in the middle of summer, but I assume there would be lots of tourists around. It’s also probably going to be hotter there too.
I’m not a huge fan of New Brunswick, but i’ve also been there more than any other province, so maybe that’s why.
I think it’s pretty humid in most places, but you probably wouldn’t find it as bad.
What kind of things are you really interested in doing? It might be easier to suggest something, knowing this.
Thanks, Cil.
Hi, nivid. No, I’m from Rhode Island. Much closer to Canada. The more I read about this, it does seem the best option to take a car up there. Especially Prince Edward Island…
I’m not sure what I’d want to do to be honest. I just figured I’d find things to do as I go. I might just have to endure the heat here and then go in August. Do the crowds wear off a bit at the end of August?
Good choice with PEI!!!
Obviously Cil has directed you to where I live. PEI is really touristy in the summer, but it’s a small place so there are no places that are really that crowded. Crowds definitly decline later in August, since there are lots of Americans here with kids. I guess they go back to school early. Once mid August is over, it definitly cools off a little, so it’s a good time to travel to PEI.
I might go. I might do both Cape Breton and Prince Edwars Island on the same trip. Why not.
I have lived in Cape Breton Island for the last 19 years, if you have any questions about it or an of the other atlantic provinces ask me, ill be glad to help.
Cape Breton is amazing in the summer.
Nova Scotia!
