So I am flying in with a few friends just after christmas and the biggest decision is where to spend new years. I would love to be in Prague like I was two years ago, but its getting late for hostel bookings and I say why not try a different place this time. I think Prague was the perfect place because of the open air party atmosphere in the old town and charles bridge area. So I am looking for a central/eastern european city that will probably still have hostel vacancy and has a popular, outdoor, partying, drinking in the streets, and end it with a fireworks display – type of area.
Any suggestions?

As of now, I really like Krakow. The old town looks festive, I hear the people are friendly, and I don’t think it will be to overwelmed with crowds.
I’ve been to Vienna already- it had some fun and festive outdoors areas around the ring (museumsplatz, hofburg, stephensplatz), but I can’t picture any drinking and partying in the streets (it might even be illegal for all I know). It may also be mostly booked up.
Budapest seems like it could be fun around the river/palace area, but I haven’t been there and can’t say.

Any other suggested places? Bratislava, Wroclaw, Warsaw, Ljubljana… we’re really open to anywhere at this point.
