Nightclubs & Beaches in Greece?
Mon, 01/05/2009 - 22:44
Hey, what city in Greece, from experience or word-of-mouth, has the best nightclubs and beaches?
I am leaving from Canada with $5435 for 37 days
Madrid, Ibiza Town, Barcelona, Genoa, Venice, Rome, Athens, Antípaxos

Many people swear by Corfu and the Pink Palace.
Others prefer Ios, still others like Mykonos.
There was plenty of action on Ios, and beautiful beaches.
The beaches at Corfu were even lovelier, but I can’t tell you about the nightlife because we stayed away from all that.
I have not yet been to Mykonos.
Definitely Paradise Beach in Mykonos – party goes on all day and into the night. Cavo Paradiso club is nearby, which hosts many of the top djs from around the world.
Mylopotas Beach in Ios is popular with backpackers – amazing Mexican restaurant “Harmony” nearby.
Pink Palace in corfu was a lot of fun. I stayed there several days and there was a good enough nightlife at the hostel that we partied there every night. Beaches were not bad. I didn’t make it to the other islands, but strongly suspect the beaches to be better elsewhere.
No, Corfu’s nightlife is not that great, but the island is highly worth visiting for other reasons, particularly its amazing coast, countryside, beaches, and baroque and neoclassical architecture. The Pink Palace is a great hostel, but if you stay there, LEAVE the premises at night, unless your idea of “nightlife in Greece” is frat-like parties geared towards the hostel’s predominantly North American college-age crowd. The town of Kavos is overrun by drunk Brits who’ve never seen alcohol before (and have never stayed up past 11Pm before), and locals avoid it like the plague.
The sophisticated nightlife is either in the big cities Athens and Thessaloníki (during the winter), or certain Aegean Islands during the summer especially Mykonos and Santoríni. If you’re looking for something more low key, like cafes, outdoor restaurants, and civilized bars, then pretty much the entire country is abuzz late at night. People go out at 10 or 11, and small cities like Corfu Town, Nafplio, Ermoupolis (Syros), Rhodes Town, Ioannina, Chania, and so on, are alive with people on summer evenings, especially weekends and in August. It’s not just young adults out an about, it’s also older people (including seniors), and children. So, when in Corfu, leave the Pink Palace at night, avoid Kavos, and hang out in Corfu Town for a very pleasant evening in the town’s many cafes and quiet bars. Save the “partying” for Mykonos and Santoríni (in Santoríni, you want to be in the town of Firá, not the quiet town of Oía). Kavos doesn’t compare to them. (Likewise, Rhodes’ version of Kavos is Faliráki. If you visit Rhodes, avoid Faliráki, and spend your evenings in Rhodes Town.)
What exactly are you looking for?

By far the best place in Greece for this would be zakynthos or zante as we brits call it. The biggest night spot there is laganas which is mega in the party season(June-Sep). Went there last year and it was major partying from start to finish! The beach isnt bad nice beach with a nice view and great sunset! Bars all along the beach too just in case you fancy a mid morning ‘mad one’!

i too am going to greece, and my friend and i are going to go island hopping. We should be in greece for about a week. However, we aren’t really looking for the crazy party islands, just the beautiful beaches, archtecture, good food, etc. Do you have any suggestions luvthebeach?
I’m not Luv, but IMHO you can’t go wrong with Crete for beaches, architecture, and fresh seafood. We flew there from Athens, then worked our way back to Athens (Piraeus) by ferry.
Any recommendation for the same topic in Santorini? I have done some reading already, but I would like any further suggestions.
Athens, Berlin, Stockholm
I second Cil’s advice on Crete. Equally worthwhile: I would also add [again] Corfu is great as long as you avoid Kavos, it has excellent low-key nightlife and architecture/scenery/beaches/etc, and ditto for Rhodes, as long as you avoid the resprt town of Faliraki. In the Cyclades I highly highly recommend Syros [more for its culture and architecture than its beaches] which you can always complement with a 2nd and 3rd Cycladic Island with better beaches. An ideal Cycladic itinerary would be Syros [architecture], Santorini [stunning scenery], Naxos (beaches). If you want an “island hopping itinerary, you can combine any one of these islands with neighboring islands, like Rhodes-Symi-Kos-Patmos or Corfu-Paxoi-Lefkada-Cephalonia… given your time constraints and ferry schedules, of course.
I’m not sure what exactly you’re asking about Santorini. Do you mean which town on the island is best for nightlife? To that question, it’s Firá, which is also the largest town on the island, and the busiest. It’s a very small island. I don’t recommend Perissa for nightlife.

Thanks for all the input, especially luv_the_beach. I’ve looked at the Pink Palance and I must say that I will NEVER step foot in it. A nice nightlife…maybe sophisticated clubs/bars with a great crowd (not tourists, but locals).
Madrid, Ibiza Town, Barcelona, Genoa, Venice, Rome, Athens, Antípaxos
malia by far has the best nightlife in Greece, it has over 85 bars, clubs and restraunts.
Amsterdam, Glasgow, Prague, Hvar, Odessa, London, Berlin, Munich, Saint-Petersburg, Oslo, Thessaloniki, Bucharest, Istanbul, Tel Aviv-Yafo
Chania, Naples, Monaco, Marseilles, Barcelona, Paris, London, Edinburgh, Stavanger, Glasgow, Dublin, London, Amsterdam, Berlin, Warsaw, Braşov, Budapest, Prague, Munich, Salzburg, Venice, Rome, Naples, Chania
I advise to avoid Malia like the plague. It’s become the new Kavos/Faliraki. See my above posts.

I’ve been to both kavos n laganas..just full of drunken brits..bloody hell

ios is far the best..typical greek architecture..ios is called the greek ibiza..so i suggest that
Bokitza, glad you had fun.
Typical Cycladic architecture. The architecture of Ios exemplifies the Cycladic Island group, which is very unique and distinct from the rest of the country. Interestingly enough, there’s pockets in Puglia region (Italy) and Andalucía (Spain) that look similar.

Definitely Paradise Beach in Mykonos i agree

car hire rio de janeiro
And i Love
Riga, Stockholm, Oslo, Bergen
Not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted.
I also agree with that Mykonos beach is a great place for partying. There good pubs with the awesome music and really lot of hot cheeks on the floor.
