north to south or other way around in spring?

Hello,
we are travelling from March 17-April 15 2011.
Our plan at the moment is: London-Amsterdam-Hannover-Berlin-Barvaria-Rome-Paris.
I know it is chilly at this time of year. I was really wanting to start in London because we are trying to make a soccer game and would like to do that first.
But I have just read you should go from south to north to get a bit nicer weather.
In your opinion, would starting out in Paris and going down to Rome (which should be nice anyway) and then making our way north and finishing in London make more sense?
I suppose though there is no right answer to this question as you can never predict what the weather will be like…but just thought I would see what ppl think,

First off, I would not expect Rome to necessarily be “nice” in March. It will probably be cool and rainy — just not as cool or cold as your other locations. Secondly, I doubt UK and Northern Europe will be a whole lot warmer in April than in March. Lastly, as you say, the actual weather is unpredictable more than a couple of weeks in advance. Unless you’re willing to delay any planning until just before you leave, I would go with whatever routing works best without considering weather.
That is true! I have gone to Rome in March before and I guess because compared to the rainy/cold Paris, and because it is much warmer than what we get where I live at that time of year, it felt like a heat wave when we were there! Although we were all in shorts and the locals were in their winter coats! But yes, I suppose a few weeks won’t make much of a difference anyway. I can deal with cold, I just hope it won’t be too rainy

I would leave it like this and go north-south. Weather is very unpredictable and you will be sorry if you have both march in the south bad weather, and then april in the north bad weather again.
At least now you end up in the south in april and have higher chance of good weather than in march.
