Checking ITA, I see Air Baltic coming in at $499 round trip total from Gatwick via Riga each way; Czech Airlines is about $35 higher currently. Cheapest from NYC in Jan/Feb looks about $906 currently. Some consolidators might have it cheaper, however.

Is there anything direct?
Any idea how long it takes from either of the cities?

Don, I was told that flying there at this time should not be more than 800.00 RT via Istanbul,
I guess Turkish Air would be the best bet.
Unfortunetly, I cannot seem to find good prices for keeping an open date.

Now that Georgia has opened up ski resorts, i hear it is being crowded from people from all over the world. I hope there must be some readers who are taking the trip there for any reason.

I don’t see any nonstop from any London airports (I used ITA month-search for Feb.). Belavia, Air Baltic, and Ukraine International all show 1 stop service from Gatwick.

Don, Based on my discussion I am told that the onluy reasonable trip to Tbilisi is via Istanbul on Turkish Air.
Every other trip sucks and too painful.
I also cannot seem to get decent priced tickets too.

I checked the airport’s wiki page and was excited to see Air Baltic and Czech Airlines serving it — which could be better than the options you mentioned. However, ITA shows what I feared… being a small airport (less than 1 mill. pax per year) there’s like 1 per day in/out of there, meaning timing connections is not always easy. So the $464 tickets on Air Baltic in March from Gatwick via Riga, and the $497s with Czech Airlines via Prague, do not work well—because they are overnight flights, and you’d be on your own (i.e. to bed down in the airport, or find a hotel)… and that’s probably not worth it to you.

The shortest duration I see for March, at a reasonable fare, is $711 with Lufthansa via Munich each way (outbound from LGW, but returns to LCY)… but even that is overnight.

In fact, when I take out all overnight flights, ITA only shows Ukraine International with a couple dates for $640. Next-cheapest (non-overnight) is $2600+ with Austrian Air. Yikes.

In April, I see BMI with a couple dates for $688 total—also not overnight—but via Baku, so I dunno if there might be visa required for you to transit via Azerbaijan. BMI go from Heathrow for this one.

So… how do you feel about spending some time in Riga or Prague? Have you tried fares with Bookingbuddy.co.uk and Bookingbuddy.com? You might turn up something better than the published fares that ITA is limited to.

No no I do not want overnight stays anywhere. Just too tasking and becomes expensive. Some of the prices such as today is horrendous.
However, I am looking at an angle of going to India via Istanbul and then on the return doing a break journey to Tbilisi. It is currently being priced at less than 1000.00 USD.
Unless I can find something much cheaper Lon to TBS.
What do you think of this angle?

My associates Georgia still insist that the prices from Heathrow at this time of the year should not be more than 500 USD.

It is now confirmed with Turkish Airlines for about 560 USD. I just couldn’t get the timing I was hoping for as Turkish Airlines offers a free sightseeing tours for transit passengers. However, one needs to be there before 9 am or 12 pm to take the tours.

I keep hearing obnoxious prices of 200 GBP RT to Istanbul and then another 50 GBP to Tbilisi but i cannot seem to find anything on my own.

The travel agent advised me due to huge backlog of passengers, the price will go up exuberantly. Hard to believe as any thing like this in US to take adavantage would get into prosecution.
