Oakland vs San Francisco
Wed, 06/02/2010 - 14:26
I realize this is a europe discussion board but most of you are american so maybe you can help. I’m torn deciding whether to spend 4 days in Oakland or San Francisco, O Town seems the cheaper option all around and seems to have more culture/less touristy but SF has lots of historic sights & things to see. So what would be a better use of my time, going to Oakland or San Fran?
Interested in nightlife, dice games, beaches, meeting people

im heading to san francisco in august! went last year! loved it!!!! you can find some cheap places there. i stayed at the amsterdam hostel in nob hill, and for 3 nights only cost me $81.20 and theat was in a 6 dorm. it was close to public transport, downtown was walking distance, and i managed to find a lot of cheap places, btoh food and shopping
they have a passport kind of thing if i remember correctly, which gave unlimited transport on all public transport including the cable cars for $11 i think….
i didnt really go out at night muc (to clubs and stuff) as i was by myself, but i still strolled around. love that place and cant wait to go back there!!!

Thank you for your response. Any opinions on O-Town?
Definitely go to San Francisco! It is a great city, much to do, much to see, easy to get around. Ask anyone who has been there, Oakland is a dump; I would skip it altogether, seriously!
SF is definitely a better visit. If you can’t find reasonably priced lodging there, look for places in any of the suburbs that have good access to BART. The bay area has public transit that’s nearly on a par with European cities.
