Looks like I may in town at that time, what are the chances of finding a cheap place to stay? Last time in Munich I stayed at "the tent", is even that place full during octoberfest?

Chucko: I think you can get a place at "The Tent", but it is normally close to being full. I would suggest going during the week.

where are you guys staying and how far in advance did you book?

We are staying a block from the fest (at secret locations, nicknamed Kampfschützenlocher) and we booked the last day of the fest last year before we left. This is the Oktoberfest, no messin’ around… its not like we’re some silly teenagers on the way to see Coldplay.

I know i have been quiet cause i promised I wouldn’t go to Oktoberfest if i haven’t secured a job in Germany…,

well had a second interview with Citibank in Dusseldorf today, with a final interview hopefully on Monday or Tuesday.

SO, organised with a friend just outside of Munich, so fingers crossed, should be catching a train down next Thursday night for a few days of some drinking and table dancing!

Man, first cross ocean flight in 4 years, not looking forward to that, plus I’ve travelled Mexico and Central America the last 2 years so haven’t had jet lag in a while either.

Sunskin. Sorry man – our dates are 22nd to the 26th (We cant do any more than that – we are getting too old these days!). Yes Michael (my brother), Kenny, Paul, Gunter etc etc are all going – I don’t know about Ross – he may be able to fit into Paul’s crowd.

Looks like i have landed a job in Dusseldorf (although over 50% of my gross pay is taken out with solidarity tax, public health insurance, retirement benefits etc) – i nearly vommited when i told how much was taken out.

Just to make this country more interesting – i have been advised to bring my wedding plans forward from the end of 2006 – if i were already married i would get another 8,000 euro in the back pocket (annually). Absurd situation – no wonder the economy is in a mess over here and nobody wants to work!

Anyways, aside from my little banter. Sunskin, I will be in Munich hopefully either Monday or Tuesday next week. Just have to get an apartment in Cologne this weekend!

Grin: Not to jump-in to anything too fast, but getting married and having a child is a wonderful thing! If you could find somebody in the next 6 to 12 months, who is a girl with her act together, and a decent job – you two would have it made! You would make an extra $10,000 + her income, etc. Something to think about anyway…

Hope you had/are having as good a time as I had! I went on the opening weekend and ran amok… was a great party! I only had a couple days at the actual festival as I arrived a few days before it began, but it was still good. Managed to fit in the 100 Club (http://www.travoholic.com/euro/articles/100club.htm) as well which was a nasty surprise. Will for sure be back for more Oktoberfests in the future!

Finished up at Oktoberfest on Friday nite, rather worse than expected…i somehow lost count of the steins and somehow consumed 4 steins by the time i ended up calling stumps – bit messy!!!

Although was not as bad as a guy on the nite train to Cologne, some punter started throwing up next to me on an overpacked train in the smoking section. Poor bugger was tossed in the toilet where he decided to stay for the next couple of hours.

How did you finish up Sunskin? I ended up the next day in the Ausgustiner beer hall in Salburg – great time was had by all!
