Oktoberfest Accomodations
Thu, 08/03/2006 - 00:51
Hi All I am going to Europe for a few months a couple of weeks from now and since it will be during Oktoberfest and since I have wanted to attend since I was a kid I decided to make it there this year finally.
Unfortunately, as I am sure everyone knows, accomodations are really tight in Munich during the festival + I am on a tight budget. Does anyone know of any hostels or rooms for rent that are cheap still available? Sunskin, I went to the hostel you just suggested and thier online booking form says they are full during the festival.
Can someone tell me what the deal is with the campgrounds? I have heard that people camp out somewhere near the festival but not sure exactly what is involved. I got the impression that even for camping one needs to make a reservation- is this true? Can someone explain this?
Open to any ideas/suggestions. I would like to stay for at least a week, if not for the whole festival if I can possibly so any thoughts in general would be appreciated. Obviously I dont intend to spend my time in the room or campground, so all I really need is a place to lay my head and shower in between drinking Thanks all. Great forum BTW. I have been a member for years but lost my old username/password so this is a new ID.
I think a hostel in a nearby town, just a few stops away, perhaps 45 to 50 mins outside of the City Centre – would be better than a campground. Checkout the train website, and purchase a 3-day, or weekly (unlimited) S-Bahn & U-Bahn rail pass. This will save you time, and leave bier money (7.50 EUR per Mas) in your pocket.

Look for the best deal, perhaps student deal on a 3-day rail pass. Staying out towards the Flughafen(airport), which is at the end of the S-1 & S-8 train routes, is about 45 mins outside of town, but you can find an inexpensive Hostel there.
You can do a pretty thorough search on:
www.muenchen.de/hote…
You can search by area, and/or price. Search in a mapped area away from the City Centre, and you can easily find something with a vacancy or two. Also, I would start my stay on a Monday, as it will be easier to find a room than requesting one Thursday thru Sunday… Less crowded in the bier zelt’s as well…
