Online tix for IC flexible in time?
Tue, 03/06/2012 - 15:09
I am looking to buy a Brussels to Amsterdam roundtrip ticket, traveling on IC (not Thalys). It looks like I can buy tickets directly from the rail company at:
which looks official (SNCB). What I am confused by is whether the tickets are valid only for the particular IC train I choose (say the 10:22 AM departure) or if the ticket is valid on any IC train on that route that day.
The conditions seem to suggest ‘Hometickets are valid for 1 day, on any regular train on that route excluding high-speed trains’… on the other hand, I do have to choose a particular time to complete the purchase.
Can someone please help?? Are IC train tickets purchased online valid all day?
(Worse, the roundtrip I am buying is called a non-flex Benelux Weekend fare .. the terms still say valid on any regular train but it is called ‘non-flex’ and I do have to choose train times before purchasing… I have to buy this online because I am hoping to make some quick connections and do not want to buy it in the station.)

1. IC trains don’t require reservations, so I would guess that the all-day validity applies. As I interpret the fine print, the “only valid for a specific train” thing seems to apply to trains that require reservations. Also, if you click on “details” when you choose an IC train it indicates that the ticket is good on any train (except high speed)in the validity period. As I read it you could use the ticket on any IC, local, regional or ICE train that calendar day. You’d have to buy a reservation for an ICE train.
2. The site (pop-up) sells cancellation insurance for 2,50 €. Probably worth it in your case.
3. It doesn’t look like The option of printing your tickets at home or going ticketless is available on IC tickets. If you don’t have time to buy a ticket do you have time to pick one up?
4. There’s a phone contact number ( pop-up and along leftt side of page) on the site if you don’t get better answers.
Thanks for your reply!
I just tried buying it and I did get a printable PDF ticket for the IC train from Brussels to Amsterdam (and back.)
Further, though I had to choose train times before entering my credit card info, the ticket itself only has a date on it and no time. So it looks like everything might work out!
