ordering wine
Thu, 09/07/2006 - 11:59
I’ve just started drinking wine so that I can enjoy it on my trip to Europe (France, Italy, Greece, Netherlands and Belgium). I have no idea how to order a glass of wine though, do I just get the House wine, do they do that in Europe? Any help would be greatly appreciated, even a book or website that somebody may know of. Thanks a bunch!

In Deutschland, Switzerland, Austria, (and Holland ist similar):
Red Wine: Eine(1) haus rot weine bitte.
White: Eine(1) haus weisse weine bitte.

You can ask for suggestions from the waiter. But in smaller cities just ask to try the local wine, which you should be able to buy by the glass.
Personally, I don’t care for american wines. I’m sure there are some good ones out there, but I’ve never found any good ones for a good price. But while abroad I always seem to find great wine at great prices. Can’t wait for Hungry and Romania!
Eh, I was not impressed by Hungarian wine. Found it bland, even though it’s called Bulls Blood.
