I’m a tad bit on the anal side so organization is big for me. I was thinking about getting a 18" travel folder so I can put any kind of nice shirts in that to keep them from being wrinkled but I was wondering if it was worth getting a couple of packing cubes to pack and organize my clothes in my backpack….are they worth it or just more of a hassle. I was also interested in the possiblity they might save some space in my pack as well. Let me know what you think if you’ve used them.

I have not used them. I like organzition, too, but when travelling, I prefer simplicity, so I choose things that travel well, roll clothing to prevent wrinkles, and often use shower steam or hot dryer/damp towel method to take wrinkles out. By avoiding these packing cubes, you could put that money into buying some clothes that travel well instead. Just my 2 cents.

Well thats what I usually do at home is just put wrinkled clothes in the dryer but I wasn’t sure if that was an option in hostels. Do most of them have laundry rooms or are laundromats pretty easy to find in Europe?

Fluffing out the wrinkles in the dryer isn’t a very good option on the road — it’s expensive and not always possible. I carry "wrinkle free" spray which is great for a special occasional or business meeting in the middle of a trip, but you’d have to carry a lot of it to be pristinely wrinkle free all the time.

Just out of curiousity, what the damp towel method?

I’ve never stayed in a hostel that did not have washing and drying machines. Damp towel method: Put a damp towel in the dryer with wrinkled clothing, plus a dryer sheet if you have one, and turn on high for 10-15 minutes. Most wrinkles will disappear. This is only a last resort if rolling, steaming, and febrezing aren’t doing it—and honestly, if these don’t get wrinkles out, then a dryer isn’t going to do much better. You could ask the hostel if they loan out an iron and ironing board, but don’t count on it.
